Someone broke into the Davidson County elections offices in Nashville, TN over the Christmas holidays and stole computers containing the personal information on all registered voters. The information contained social security numbers.
Officials there say they're going to start sending out notices to everyone to monitor their credit. By the time those notices get sent, a lot of people will probably already have a big problem. I hope they all start watching their credit right away and get some kind of identity theft protection.
These identity thieves will probably be able to rake in over 50 million dollars with all those stolen social security numbers. I hope they get caught. Any victim of identity theft can tell you how devasting and violated this can make you feel.
It's bad enough to get your credit card bill in January after Christmas shopping. Even worse to get a bill for an account that a thief created in your name.
