My back was shining in the sun
A resurrection you might say
Am I but a shadow on a rock
This crisp, cold December day?

Or am I a water nymph
Who has lost her golden way
Seeking visions of immortal youth
and perennial summer days.

The tide is out in Cohasset harbour
The sea air sparkling clear

Through a veil of cedar fir green
a glimpse of Minot Light
And a fishing boat
going out to sea.

There is no wind,
a hard, tense,
frozen music
plays in my ear.
The rhymic beat of waves
lapping at the shore.

I find it good to be out
A shadow in the sun
Rambling over rocks,
Slipping on seaweed.

Shells beneath my feet
I crouch low and ponder
What miracle allowed you to happen
in just this perfect form?

Are my thoughts not concentrated?
Am I not compact this winter day
to capture images of the sea.

A lobster trap, some fish eggs,
seashells and black seaweed,

All sentient is my body
all sinew and bone
carefully observing
the wonders
of our earth.

Oh, my gallant earthship
Spinning gently through space,
Should we not protect you
From the ravages of destruction?

Thank you for starting my day of right on this last day of the year.
Such beauty in photos and words reminds me what I am missing in these cold months of winter as I hibernate in my lair.
Where is this magical place? I would like to check it out, it looks familar!
This is a fine piece.
The photos bring their own story.
Together, this is a wonderful New Year's treat for us on Gather.
This is a remarkable essay. It has a spiritual beauty that lingers on in one's heart.
May I join you in saluting Marinela.

What really wowed me was your attention to detail in both the imagery of the photos and the text---¨veil of cedar fir green, ¨¨a lobster trap, some fish eggs, seashells and black seaweed¨--as well as your capacity to find a metaphor for consciousness--¨a shadow on a rock--¨that somehow emerges from ¨sinew and bone.¨
This was a magnificent photo essay poem, showing the power of blogs like this to inspire with articles that are truly first rate combining images and text in new ways.
I hope your 2008 is filled with blessings, good health and much happiness.
The Photographers Review
I thoroughly enjoyed the verses that gave context to, and interpretations of, the photos.
Ten stars from me.
A HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR ALL!
I have never tried to write poems in English but I do in Greek. I will try to express what I felt while speaking together on skype:
The New Year's Eve has brought to me
A jingle voice across the sea
The laugh was warm
The voice was soft
A real fairy in this world
The bridge was built by the wise man ( Maggi)
Who thought the world be once again
A wonder land in which to walk
In love and light
IN search of self
And in deep thought
So fresh and frail you are my dear
You seem a snow white cherry flower
And like an angel from above
You crossed my life's course at this hour!
Now that you have learned about my love of the sea, I feel to thank you for the beautiful photos posted in here which bring us nearer. I would love to walk with you on the beach and hand in hand to help nature find its balance.
There is so much beauty around us and one has only to keep silent and observe how Mother Nature is alive and share with us her unconditional love and beauty.
We are energy in an ocean of energy; past, present and future are one; nothing separates us from the source of love and light.
I am looking forward to developing our newly found friendship and you really made my yesterday while having the gift of your voice.
THANK YOU
BLESSINGS
It's such a gift to go wandering with you via the computer. Thank you for this treat.
