Those of you with young children know that they are famous for singing lyrics differently than they were written. My youngest is three this Christmas and she has been dancing in front of the Christmas tree since we put it up singing, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Ear." At first I just laughed and then I began to wonder what it would be like if God gave me a Happy New Ear.
Do you think with a Happy New Ear I would be able to hear joyful things more clearly? Maybe in the early morning when my little one comes tramping in to wake me up, my Happy New Ear would focus on the beautiful sounds of birds and help me greet the day with a smile instead of a groan. Maybe a Happy New Ear would listen harder to good things people say than to the bad. Maybe a Happy New Ear would help me hear that still small voice with which God speaks so often.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that I want a Happy New Ear in 2008 and let me be the first to wish you a Happy New Ear too.

I wish you a Happy New Ear also!!
I have to tell you one holiday song variation one of my children sang, thinking of her uncle Robert.... "Jingle bells, jingle bells.......Bells on Bob's tail ring..." The image just isn't nearly as cute as a happy new ear!
