I have an acquaintance that just dyed her daughter's hair. The child JUST turned two. The poor thing's hair is now, of all colors, burgandy. I just keep thinking about this poor little girl with all those chemicals on her little head, no choice in the matter... Who does that?? What do you think? Is dying a two year old's hair acceptable?

I try not to judge others, but I wouldn't let my child dye her hair until she was 16.

I think that 2 years old is way way too young to be having your hair dyed ... But that's just my opinion ...

Horrible !!! Such harsh chemicals !!! I know a Jewish woman who said her mother always dyed her hair blond as a little kid - it didn't kill her. So I guess it won't kill her. But still - yikes !!!

if it was permanent dye that is ridiculous, if it is one of the fun kid safe ones that is only temporary (like a spray on or a colored gel) than it would be fun for a few days or special occasion! I let my kids wear green tinted hair gel to the dayton dragons baseball games when we go but I would never use permanent dye on either kid!

Absolutely NOT! I remember when a friend of mine took my daughter to the flea market one time -- my daughter was about 7 or so -- and had her EARS PIERCED there! I had an absolute FIT! Not only did she NOT have my permission to do that, the females in our family have a history of allergies to different metals. I, myself, am allergic to yellow gold and can only wear silver or platinum jewelry or risk breaking out or having my finger turn BLACK! Sure enough, about a month later, I had to take my daughter to the doctor to remove the posts and treat her for a terrible infection!

Hmmmm.....that does seem a bit young if you ask me. I'm sure it was all in fun but two does seem a bit young. I know I wouldn't do it. I guess to each his own.
It's using a child as a fashion accessory.

When my sister was little she had light brown hair with very light blonde streaks. Women would ask my mom if she dyed it. By the time my sister started school the problem solved itself.

I think the chemicals are far too harsh for a child that age. My mom used to perm my hair when I was two and three. I remember the agony of having to sit through the process at such a young age. So besides the chemicals being too harsh for a child, speaking from experience, making a child sit through the process is cruel.

I don't think a child's hair should be dyed until they are older. And I agree with the others that unless it's somekind of wash out hair coloring, the chemicals are too harsh for the fine hair of a child.

Maybe she didn't know any better? Someone could send her info from a health site on the chemicals in the products.
When the kid is bald at 15 she can go on some "hate your mom" tv show and sue her for the price of eternal wigs.

Oh, yes, I guess I should have mentioned it was permanent dye. Of course, this is the same woman who decided to leave her four month old son's nails long so he would cut himself and stop sucking his thumb. I swear, it is only a matter of time before she does something so stupid she loses her kids.

Lacey, it just takes a phone call, and a report to call them. It is up to the social service agent to determine the best route for the well being of children. If it is to take the children away, then so be it. Usually the closest and most capable relative is asked to take custody of the children.
If the courts get involved, yes, she can be ordered to take parenting classes to be able to gain custody back of her kids.

See, we had neighbors who left their children in the street to play, completely alone. The poor kids were like five and three. I called CPS THREE times and they didn't do anything. When we moved, those little kids were still playing in the street by themselves. When they got hurt, I would be the one to go make sure they were ok because the parents never bothered. I think if CPS doesn't bother with that, why would they with a mom who dyed her baby's hair?
I agree that the chemicals in permanent hair dye are far too harsh for a child so young. And what she did with her son was unconscionable, as well. I'd make the call. CPS might or might not take any action, but at least your conscience would be clear that you had done what you could.

I had a friend who started streaking her daughter's hair at the age of five. I don't know what she was thinking. I gave up trying to figure out why people want their children to be all grown up at such an early age.

Lacey, even if they don't consider it physical abuse, it can be mental abuse.
I agree with Bruce and you on this. The child is being conditioned to think she must change her image to be accepted.

Permanent dye in someone so young is NOT ACCEPTABLE you definitely need to report it to someone. if cps won't do anything call the non emergency line of the police and ask them if exposing a child to harsh unneccessary chemicals is child endangerment!

I don't see anything wrong with this unless the warning label on the package so states not to be used for children of a given age. There is alway something that people do that you may not agree with---could be someone may be saying something about how you are raising your kids---then what. If your that concerned about it you should be talking to her and explain any dangers that you know about that she does not.

i think that's crazy.. i don't know how that's safe.. there's a lot of harsh chemicals in hair dye. thank god she didn't get any in here eyes.. that's so dangerous. i'm 19 now.. but i wasn't allowed to get my hair colored until i started my sophmore year in HS. i hope that little baby doesn't have to go through that again!

They said it with that! Mine's cool with green, orange or pink, it's fun AND my choice. Think this one is a little young to choose, wonder on the message. Might this be some sort of religious custom or anything like that? Guess we couldn't mess with that. I would never, but she ain't me I guess. I'm thinking I may look in disapproval surely, I ain't no angel, but I would mind my biz if there is no neglect or abuse in the major areas visible for sure.
Honestly, I do not think this was an appropriate thing to do.
