I am sitting her at work doing my job .. I run a storage place. This is normally a quiet peaceful job. I normally have nice friendly customers and they all know me by name and I know theirs too.
Well I am sitting here at my desk doing some paperwork when this man comes and storms thru my door .. the second he walked thru the door he started yelling and screaming .. cussing and threatening me. I told him look sir I have no idea what your talking about but if you can't speak in a calm lower voice to me then you need to leave my office or I will be calling the police out. He did not quit. Was swinging his arms around and talking all crazy like ..
From what I gather he was mad over some charge to his credit card that was from Uhaul .. He had made a reservation with Uhaul for a truck and he was supposed to pick up at our location. He never showed up for the truck. So Uhaul if you don't show charges a cancellation fee. This is automatically done and neither I nor my boss can charge or waive this fee. This is purely done by Uhaul.
I feel Uhaul is right to asses the fee though. The moving trucks are in high demand and we have lots and lots of customers needing them for at the same times. So if someone reserves it and doesn't show they are taking money from the bussiness and making the truck unavailable for rental to someone else who would come and get it. So they should charge a fee. I did not charge the fee though or anyone at my place of bussiness.
He made the reservation over the phone somewhere else. It was transfered to us only because we had the equpiment he needed. I had called him several times when he did not show up for the truck to see if he was still coming. He never answered the phone .. or called me back.
So him coming in the office today and going off on me was uncalled for. I told him sir .. I am pregnant .. I am sitting here at my desk doing my job and would love to help you but with the way your acting you need to leave.
I picked up the phone and dialed 911. He said good call the cops .. I live in this town and I know them. I was like ok if you know them do they know you act like this toward pregnant women? He ended up slamming things around then leaving my office. Saying he is going to sue "that arabic theif" refering to my boss.
I called my boss. He said if he comes back and I see his car to call the cops.
What is wrong with people .. don't they know kindness goes a long way .. anyone would be more willing to help him if he was calm and being civil! Also why the hell would you see and know a woman is pregnant and continue to act like that?
Some people are just plain evil!

I am sorry for your stress. Working with the public has its down side, doesn't it?
Crazy part is this was an OLD man .. a big burly old gray haired man.
If he would have just called us once or answered the phone when we called him then he would not have had a fee. It was HIS fault ..
I talked to the main Uhaul office about it and they will never ever rent equipment to him ... EVER. They put you on an e alert list that flags your name if you try to rent again .. and so he will never be able to rent a Uhaul for as long as he lives do to his behaviors. So I feel I got some justice!
I just don't understand grown men who will scream and yell and stomp their feet and throw stuff around and direct all this anger at a PREGNANT stranger!
Ugg .. people!
I also agree- UHaul is well within their rights to have charged his card. In fact, it's written in the rental agreement he signed.
Not that his actions are right, because they are not. He should not have been so belligerent and physically throwing things around.
But what would have you done differently? If he had not been so angry and swinging things around, and came in asking about the charge in a nice polite manner, would you have offered him a refund, or what would have been the outcome of his complaint? I am just curious. Did he call and talk to anyone before coming down to your job? How did he even know what nationality your boss is?
However, Dena did say she tried calling him to confirm his rental pick-up, and no response. So, the fact he did not call back, nor answer his phone, he is liable for charges.
He is in the wrong. But there still is no fact that he signed an agreement--he would have if he came in and picked it up--isn't that usually when a customer signs the paperwork?
