Romans 12:1,2 NLT
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is.
This is the "after the holidays where I overindulged and ate way too much" Scripture upon which I will be reflecting for a while! I have been struggling with my weight for years but I really went crazy beginning at Thanksgiving. I know I can't lose the weight on my own--of my own will. I need God to help me. If you are finding yourself in a similar situation, feel free to chime in. I'll be posting various scripture and words of encouragement as I discover them. It's so much easier to lose weight (or accomplish any other goal) when we receive encouragement and support from others. I could use lots of both. Join me in offering our bodies to God as a living and holy sacrifice. He is greater than our desire for food, alcohol, drugs or anything else on this earth, in this world.

We are living sacrifices because we make this a choice. The problem with it being a choice to live our lives as a living and perfect sacrifice, is that we can also choose from time to time to turn our backs on that way of living. It's HARD!
