On our back porch is an orchid that blooms from time-to-time. We do NOTHING (other than to water it) to encourage or care for it! And, believe me, our back porch is not a hothouse, it is far from one, in fact, as it is all ceiling to floor windows with no additional insulation. There is a heater there for when temps drop into the low 20's or teens, but it's been a fairly mild winter so far. Last night's low was 30, so it was probably below 40 on the porch. To our surprise, it was blooming when we got up this morning.

Merry Christmas.
Did you know that the moth "painted" on the lip is to attract the correct kind of moth to help with pollenization of the plant? This is why there are so few natural crosses in the wild and the speciest stay pure. I find the horticulture of orchids fascinating.
Merry Christmas
Sandy, I don't know a thing about what kind of orchid it is, sorry.
