Ping is a pain. I'd rather just get an E-mail. And they do have notifications if you're pinged. They come in just like publishing and E-mail notifications. I've already been pinged quite a few times, but don't like all the extra steps they take to go to your profile and read them.
I have an article written on pings and if you look at my articles or if you check out Kevin's community event calendar there is an article of pinging linked there. There are notifications but I haven't cared enough to look for them.
for a short note that one will see when they open there profile. it wont get mixed in with the mail but also everyone who sees your profile can see it.
