I have always had a cat. I think I must have had one from birth! My parents didn't like dogs, but we were always allowed to have cats as long as they stayed outside. Of course the rules changed a bit 25 years later when my sister arrived on the scene. She was allowed to have one inside. But that's OK. I loved all our cats, and as soon as I had a household of my own, the first thing I did was to get my very own cat.
My first cat was Dusty. We took him home from my Grandparents' neighbor's barn when he was about 6 weeks old. He grew to be a pretty big cat. But he had one problem: he was terrified of going outside. We tried to take him out by walking around the yard first. But he was so frightened that he burrowed into our clothes until we went back inside.
We added a puppy several months later after bringing home Dusty. For a short while the puppy was smaller than the cat. They would take turns chasing each other up and down the length of the house. I wish now we had taken more pictures of a kitten chasing a puppy. It was hilarious. Back and forth. Back and forth.
Poor Dusty didn't last long. He contracted something like feline leukemia. I had never heard of it before, so we didn't know what he had. I cried buckets of tears over the loss of our poor little Dusty. For a couple years after that, we only had the puppy which grew up to be a full-grown chow chow. We learned quickly you couldn't really cuddle up to a chow. They looked cuddly, but they certainly didn't act cuddly.
The cat we got next was Rainbow. We still have her. She is about 15 years old now, and acting her age. She and my daughter grew up together. They were best buddies, and that cat trusted my daughter to some very odd lengths.
But enough about our personal cat experience. Over the years I have found some nice places that talk about cats. So I have a collection of cat quotes, cat facts, cat tips, and cat jokes. I thought I would share some with you. Enjoy!

Cats are smarter than dogs. You cannot get a cat to pull a
sled.
Cats can be cooperative when something feels good, which,
to a cat, is the way everything is supposed to feel as
much of the time as possible.
Cats can't taste sweets.
Cats have true fur, in that they have both an undercoat
and an outer coat.

I don't know who wrote/said this, but here's another cat quote:
"You're nobody until you've been ignored by a cat."
See, cats are suspicious by nature and, if one thinks it's okay to turn their back on you while they sleep or groom themselves, then you're "okay".
All of my friends and girlfriends over the years have had to pass the "cat test". Cats are good judges of character in my experience. If a potential friend or lover comes to my house and most/all of my cats run & hide, that person doesn't get invited back and I keep them at arm's length. The cats have never been wrong, but I have.
I have always grown up with indoor cats. My kids and I rented and apartment for a while and we couldn't have any pets but now were in a house and my daughter has a kitten .. well its almost 6 months now! I love cats .. very independant .. but I like dogs too! :)
Love the quotes and some info I did not know!
Thanks, Kimi. I'll look for it.
Diane, you're the first person I've heard talk about how sweet their chow chow was! While ours was not a fighting chow, she was not cuddly!
Yeah, believe it or not, I'm slightly allergic (ask my allergist how I can be slightly allergic) to cat dander. I put up with it anyway. Stuffy noses and watery eyes are worth having the cat around.
I found tons more good stuff, but it would have made the article too long. I'll put up more another day. Plus I'd like to get some pictures of our cat up. She's getting old. I need to get more pictures of her before her time comes.

But, dang, I am still hoping I can get the cat fur off the couch!
My fav: cat-haters come back as mice.

Merry Christmas!
