These two articles were on the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer today.
The first had to do with the shortage of food going to food banks. There are several reasons for this, one being that there is not as much fresh produce as there was in previous years and second, most of the major companies (Conagra, Hunt's,etc) that used to donate food now sell the food they use to donate to dollar stores to sell. It said that many of the food banks are running at around 40% of capacity.
The second article had to do with a man who decided he wanted to walk to the South Pole. He has to make it there by January 11th or he will run out of food and a chartered plane will have to be flown in to provide him with more food. This will cost at least $50,000.
Seeing these two articles together just made me wonder. I understand why this man wants to do what he is doing, but I keep thinking that $50,000 will go to feed one man while there are people that desperately need food. Just think how many people could be fed with that $50,000 and it just doesn't make sense to me.

really makes the differences even more
vivid and I wonder how many others read
the two articles and thought the same thing.
