We got some minor snow in the past week, but I haven't had a chance to go photograph it in my favorite spots because I was working the whole time. I was off today and I figured I'd better get down there and start shooting because it'll all melt away on Sunday, when it's supposed to get into the 50s and rain.
We had some snow Thursday overnight into Friday, and then some more Sunday. All of it was wet heavy stuff that got crusty immediately afterwards when it got cold. So walking the trails in Ballard Park told a very interesting tale. The park is a favorite place for people in the south ends of Newport to walk their dogs, but man and his best friend seem to have stuck to the old quarry floor (and not many there, either); the trails were full of Deer tracks ( and a Raccoon in another place), but no boots and paws!

Down on Hazard Rd. on Gooseneck Cove the wildlife was stirring. There were Mallards:

and one half of the mating pair of Great Blue Herons who live in the salt marsh:

By the way, that water there isn't Gooseneck Cove proper; it's the flooded section of Hazard Rd.
On the way back home I ran into this Downy Woodpecker at a feeder in town:

And that's today's walk.

It is such a challenge to get the exposure right on those animal tracks in snow.
