I have always thought of Gather as a place where people come to the table as they are. For this reason I've never liked the ones that hide under aliases, but at least they still are not pretending to be who they are not; they are not people who speak for someone else. As that famous line in the Lord of the Rings goes,
At its head there rode a tall and evil shape, mounted upon a black horse... The rider was robed all in black, and black was his lofty helm; yet this was no Ringwraith but a living man. The Lieutenant of the Tower of Barad-dûr he was, and his name is remembered in no tale; for he himself had forgotten it, and he said: 'I am the Mouth of Sauron.'
And yet, I've encountered a number of "Mouths" on Gather, people who claim to be a person and yet always seem to post articles in the third person, as though Gather is a place to dump press releases. Oddly enough they appear to mostly be politicians running for president. They appear in both Democrat and Republican guises although the most recent appearances seem to be from the Democrats.
Now don't get me wrong. If Hillary Clinton really is on Gather then more power to her. The same is true for Chris Dodd, John Edwards etc. But if they are not on Gather and instead some lackey in their campaign office is setting up accounts in their names and posting press releases then shame on them all!
