ANGEL OF MY DREAMS

You are the angel of my dreams

And I want to follow you,

Wherever you might venture

Whatever you lead me through.

I vow you my love, sweet lady

Though unworthy of your touch,

You are the angel I've been seeking

And it worries me so much.

I've been a scoundrel and a rascal

And now my heart tells me to change,

All for my imagination -

Or for a love that feels so strange.

You are the angel of my dreams

The one that I've always feared,

How can I just give my heart away

Not knowing how much you care.

Please do not think I am a coward

I have seen my share of fights,

But these emotions you confront me with -

They come and haunt me in the night.

All I have left is my heart and soul

Things meant to keep, by any means,

But I would gladly hand them over to you,

The angel of my dreams.

I like the rhythmic flow of this poem. The wording makes it sound like a young man quite infatuated with a woman that he adores, but is unsure how to tell her this, so he uses romantic superlative ideas to help her see his adoring heart. This certainly has the rhythm of a modern day country song. I could easily think of Chesney or even Clint Black singing this.

wOW William, you have the makings of a true poet critic. Seriously. Though I be in my forties, I guess you could say when it comes to love and adoration, true love & true adoration, my heart is young.
