Today, I decided to get the Santa visit over with. I figured we get to the mall just before 5, on a Tuesday, and we won't have a long wait. First and foremost, I failed to take into account the fact that Santa gets like a 90 minute break mid-day. Oops, my bad, we got there just after his break started, but there was no indication of how long it would be, what time he'd be back, etc.
So, we went ahead and went into Gamestop as it was right in front of where Santa was at. As the kids wandered around, Nick and I perused the PSP games for a few minutes, then I Raegan came over to show me something.
She and Chris knew I was looking for a pink PSP yesterday, and she found a rubbery skin set all in pink. She wanted to let me know that I could put that on any DS and have a pink one. So... here's how MY end of the conversation and hers went:
MOm: "Oh, that's ok, I decided not to get a DS for Christmas."
Rae: "Aww, why not?"
Mom: "Well, there is really only one or two games I am interested in, and if I want to play one, I can just borrow yours or your broth-............."
-mom slaps hands over face-
Rae: "Oh, what games? Wait- we're getting DS's?!??!?!?!?"
Ugh.... So, Raegan knows the big secret of what her and Chris are getting. :( I'm so upset! I know she's highly excted, but really, Nick and I were just excited to see their faces on Christmas Morning when they -finally- get what they have been asking for now for months.
So, Christmas isn't ruined, but still... I don't like that she knows now.:(

She'll still be delighted when she gets it.
Christmas is about family getting together, and not about the presents, so have a great one!
She did try weasling out of us what games she's getting. I told her no way. I wouldn't even confirm whether or not she's getting any games (her and Chris are each getting 3- one that came with the systems, and two used games we got cheap). :)
Walker was looking at a skirt of mine tonight and cursing the fact that "Canucks don't put sizes on anything." My reply was that NOBODY should surprise me with clothes because I'm too much of a knitpicker about what I wear. That averted a crisis. He mentioned a denim skirt, and I told him that really wasn't my style.
We both agreed that surprises put WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE on people.
I find ways to surprise Walker on a daily basis, just because I LISTEN to him, not having to ask too much. He's getting the hang of doing that.
Next year when you surprise the kids, don't tell the parents.
I don't tell anyone ANYTHING. If I tell anyone anything, I tell people who don't know the recipient of the gift.
Merry Christmas.
Besides, that little turd, as I pointed out, is getting old enough that we just kind of 'talk' around her. She's getting to be such a big girl, she's not quite one of the adults yet, but she's getting close. Perfectly natural slip, and Rae sort of suspected a DS anyways. I'd be more upset if Chris knew, 'cause it's what he's been wanting from day 1 and I don't think he has any idea yet.
Either way, I think the coolness of what they get far outweighs a week's early heads-up to one of 'em. :)
I probably wound have played that one off, by saying....
GOTCHA!
Or tried hard anyway.
Today she came home with a post it note she had folded, and wrote on it to make it look like a DS. She said she'd been pretending to play it on the bus, so she could have fun until Christmas.
Then I told her... "What if Mom was just joking?" And I said it with a straight face. So now, she's questioning it. ;)
