Ok, I'll start out by telling you... he's not human! :)
I've never been one for cheesy pet stories, but this one definitely found me, and he's definitley from a different breed!
I have never been a "dog person". Ok, well, maybe when I was very, very young, because we lived way out in the country and didn't have any friends to play with, so I latched on to our dogs. But since I grew up and had children of my own, I just didn't want the extra responsibility of owning a dog. Not only because you have to feed it and clean up poop, but I am a firm believer that if one does not have the time and love to devote to a pet, one should never bring that pet home. Until recently, I didn't feel that I had that time or love to devote to a dog... ugh... still don't know where it's coming from, but I definitely have it now! lol Like I told my Dad, if you would have told me a couple weeks that I would have a dog sleeping in my bed, as close to me as he can physically snuggle... I would have gagged, and told you that you were nuts! Just... not a dog person! :)
Ok, well, about two weeks ago, my fiancee and I were coming home from dropping our sons off at school. Our younger one usually rides the bus, but it was cold, so we didn't want him waiting at the bus stop in the cold, so we went the extra distance to drop him off as well. We were coming home, just chatting back and forth as usual, and had almost reached our destination when we spotted a large dog, who ran right in front of the car. It took a couple seconds to realize that he was attacking a small dog, a daschund. I slammed on the breaks, and my husband quickly jumped out of the car. The bigger dog ran off, and the daschund jumped right into the car, and onto my lap. The poor little guy was shaking uncontrollably, and, even I, couldn't help but feel the need to protect him. We looked around, and not seeing where it looked like anyone was home, we decided to bring him on home, to let him calm down and check his wounds, to make sure he was ok. We did NOT plan on keeping him. We could tell he was well taken care of, wearing a collar, but no ID, we assumed someone had let him in the back yard, and he had somehow gotten out. We were sure the family would be missing him, and we would be happy to reunite the puppy with the owners.
I was sick that day, and ended up sleeping most of the evening. The next day, we went and knocked on doors, around where we found the puppy. Nobody had any idea who he belonged to. I placed a couple lost and found ads, thinking, surely, these people would be looking for this sweet little dog. I started joking around with my fiancee that this dog was soooo loving, that if we didn't find the owners, we were going to have to keep him... I swear, it was a joke! lol
This dog, whom we finally named, "Chubby", a couple days ago, immediately latched on to us, and me specifically. It was impossible not to immediately love him back! He's sooo cute, with his little chubby legs, running as fast as he can to stay right with me, whereever I go. He's finally learned to manuever the stairs, which is a sight in itself! My fiancee made a "step" for him, to get up on the bed more easily, using a foot rest. He jumps up here and snuggles up as close as he can. If I'm not in the bed, he lies right in my spot, and I have to gently move him over to get some room.
Last week, as I had a few girlfriends over, one of them told me that she believes the dog found me, and that I needed him to help me feel better... as the days go by, I'm believing that more and more. I've been pretty sick lately, and in a lot of pain, spending a lot more time in bed than I like. Since this puppy has been around, I have found my spirits lifted many times, and even found myself laughing, watching him run to me as soon as he sees me, with his little head and tail both wagging!
I've always believed that angels are brought to us, often in the form of another person, or even an animal. I'm really believing my little Chubby was brought to us. What a fun Christmas this is going to be!
