New Scam

They did that to me, I called and I said I am not paying it. I didn't sign up for it, don't know what it is you will return it to me or I'll cancel my phone and use my cell. They refunded it. Just get made and don't let them tell you it's your fault it's not.

I would not pay, You should see a lawyer.

I've never had that happen, however, my phone company (I won't say their name but it starts with 'Front' and ends in 'ier') has a scam of their own going on. When I signed up for telephone and DSL computer service at the end of August before I moved at the beginning of September, I was quoted prices for service and installation. ONE WEEK after I moved into my new place with service starting the day I arrived, I received a bill for almost $300! WHAT? One week? A bill already and for that much? A call immediately went to their office wanting to know what it was all about. I was being charged $20 more a month for DSL...plus $5 a month for modem rental...plus $127 more for installation (where my old company and my new company charged nothing for modem rental or installation). I demanded the DSL service be dropped, my account credited and the bill straightened out. I was told to wait until the next bill to see what I owed and send nothing in the meantime. I got a disconnection notice for non-payment after the next bill was to arrive...which had jumped to $402...after one month of service. Back on the phone to them...more representatives and supervisors to talk to...promises of getting it in line. Three weeks later; no service...for non-payment...when I actually send them $125...but it wasn't the entire amount the last bill showed...and I was a new customer. Down to the corner on the pay phone with them for an hour (at least my 50 cents was given back because it was on one of their phones I was calling them.) Service back on...more promises to clear the matter up...another disconnection notice...and another $75 sent to them. Service interrupted again because payment in full was not received. Back to the pay phone...another call...more promises...discovery my DSL was not turned off when requested and I'm still paying for a service I don't use and have had replaced by another company...and I'm being charged $100 for the modem because I didn't return it, even though their records indicate I'm still a subscriber using their DSL...so I would need the modem for that...and have continued to be charged the additional $5 per month rental on the modem. I send in yet another check for $100...$300 now for three months of lousy, bottom of the line telephone service...no extras, call waiting, call back, caller ID and such...I pay 8.3 cents for every local call and 17 cents a minute for long distance. The modem goes back in a self-addressed, postage paid container they sent me and my new bill arrives...$22.83. Better than averaging $100 a month, but they haven't credited me for the modem...they can't find it, so it hasn't been 'returned' and I still owe for it...and am being charged for two months of DSL I didn't use and ordered canceled, but because their records don't indicate it was canceled, I still have to pay for it...at the misquoted, inflated prices...along with a pro-rated installation fee. Supposedly, when they receive the modem, I get a $100 credit...meaning I won't have to pay a bill for the next 4 1/2 months and get their service free...though I've already paid out through the nose dearly. In the end, once things are straightened around, it will be 8 months for roughly $325...$40 a month for a phone service that's supposed to only be costing me around $20 a month...double the price of what it should be. The lesson here...check those bills and prices...of everyone. Companies try to slip things by you in the way of charges...and even try to hold you responsible for their mistakes. And to think, I could have avoided this whole mess and extra charges I won't get back...if I hadn't been trying to support the local economy and go with a city service instead of just keeping the carrier I had and switching them to my new home. Bunch of buggers!!!

I got scammed by text messaging that supposely had ring tones for my phone, the total charge was 400.00 dollars. After, many calls to sprint and throwing a fit that would make a two year old proud, they too refunded my money. I also froze my cell from getting text alerts

I did not think that a phone company can do this.

Call your local TV station get them involved -let them know what is going on, lle them know how consumers may be getting ripped off, then let the phone company know you're doing this...Jean they'll refund your money.

I constantly delete spam e-mails....just let someone try and charge me for something I did not order I will rip into them like they have never seen.

Well the woman told me to stop shouting, and stop cursing her. I said, "DAMN". I am still upset over this.

you have every right to be mad. I do know that the same thing just happened to a relative of mine. She was told the same thing, we sent you an email. She said, I dont know anything about an email? She was charged but she paid it anyways.
I do know that you have to watch if you sign up for any free sweepstakes, and many other things, that if you sign up for any of this, the phone company has the right to change your long distance service. This happened to us, we had 3 different long distance services and was paying a fee for them. We had a mess trying to get out of this, the phone company said, if you read the small print on the bottom of the sweepstakes, it says, you are giving us the right to swithch your service. She gave me numbers to call to get this straightened out, I kept getting answering machines, so I called the phone company and she got right through to a real person. Wasnt that amazing? She told them to credit our bill, it stil took 3 months to get these services off of the bill.
I think this should be against the law, alot of people cant afford this and the consumers are the ones getting ripped off
Our phone company would tell us that if we bought a package, our long distance would be free. Um no, it wasnt. So I called Vontage and got connected to them, I got tired of being ripped off by our old phone company.

"Enhanced Services Billing Inc.?" That was for billing What? A membership to enhance your billing, not thanks I have bad enough billing without them enhancing anything.

Was it the phone co. or this phoney company that told you you signed up? Call the phone company and tell don't ask them to remove that NOW.

You should be able to just tell your phone company to remove the charge.

I called the bank and stopped payment on my phone bill. The phone company has an agreement with several companies to collect for them.
If this doesn't work will cancel my phone service.

I use Vonage, my number is unlisted at no extra charge, voicemail, call waiting is free, etc, no long distance charges either. All for $24.99. I've had it for two years now and would never go back to a regular landline.

It looks like the phone company should give you credit for the bill.

Lynn, I had vonnage and I am glad I switched to my cable company. Not only is it cheaper but Vonnage says you can get out of the plan after a year, yeah, you can and I called them and they gave me the date to cancel and I did, but they didn't mention that they want 13 months payment, so they charged me the extra month after I switched which I paid for no service. When I asked for a refund they said that I would be charged a fee for cancelling early which was a few dollars more. If I had known and was told I would be responsible for the 13th month I would have waited the month and then switched. They also don't switch on Saturdays and I wound up without service the whole weekend too.

Jean that really is disturbing, I would fight it too!
