High School. Go Hornets! Sometimes I can barely believe I was once eighteen years old. That was forty years ago. I am not someone who discards old memories. They stay with me forever...so does the jewelry.
When I was in high school, I had a boyfriend from a neighboring town. He had good taste in jewelry and for our first Christmas, he gave me a beautiful gold charm bracelet. Each occasion, thereafter, he gifted me with a beautiful charm. I recently came across this bracelet.

I'm thinking of adding to it with charms representing the many events that I've lived through, celebrated or cherished. Finding this anachronistic piece of jewelry reminded me of how much I have loved charm bracelets filled with charms.

I would see a woman wearing a charm bracelet. Her wrists totally bedecked in charms. Naturally curious, I asked about them and invariably she'd explain how each one came about. I loved the stories! Now, I want to be that woman with the over-flowing charm bracelet and have people ask about them.
I saw a filled charm bracelet for sale on ebay - perhaps, it's already sold which would make my decision easier. It was silver and that's what I now prefer wearing. Silver cools, gold heats. Maybe I could mix the charms all together. What do you think? Have you ever owned a charm bracelet? Tell me about it! Thank you. Salud.

BTW - Thanks for offering a rating and/or a comment on my article entitled Gifted Messages. It is because of friends like you that it went to the #1 rated article today!
Beautiful story and lovely photographs of your hands adorned with charms from the past! A bit of gypsy spirit here, I hear the jingle jangle of the open road.
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
I would keep the older one and go out and get your own and start filling it up!
You are right, Mariana charm bracelets are cool when you fill them with memories.
So thinking about those Italian hunks you live with...we should leave notes in our jewelry boxes to explain what we are leaving behind. But, don't worry we won't be writing those notes for another half-century or so!
Tonya - hello new friend! I appreciate you listing all your charms - they sound great.
Colonel, as always your comments are unique - thank you.
ERin, I hope you get one - maybe this will inspire you!!!
Connie your ankle bracelet sounds very neat! Thank yall. Salud.
I do not own a charm bracelet, but my wife and I make them along with all sorts of other jewelry items!
Please check out my last image post....you might be surprised by my source inspiration!

When I looked at the charms, I couldn't believe I could even remember what they were for. A profile of JFK's head to commemorate a trip to D.C. as a child, a maple leaf for Niagara Falls, etc.
I'll never let it go, but I'll probably never wear it again. A child's memories on an aging woman's wrist might depress me.
Oh Madame Donna C. I hope it resurfaces - I'm putting my focus on it coming back to you - they do sometimes you know.
Phyllis - you are getting to be one of my favorite buddies here - we think alike. You wouldn't believe my jewelry. Mama gave me her jewelry which was pure gold - but it's soft but gorgeous - hand hammered orchids and stuff - more on that later. Plus, my dad's first wife gifted me with 1920's leaded glass stuff along with bakelite and anything from that period, and I have loads of coral and things out of shells and of course squash blossom necklaces - two antique and one made out of alligator teeth by a Chitimacha Indian Chief where I'm from - Chief Stouff. I got bling all over the place - hang it on my Christmas tree. I love the cross idea - I have crosses everywhere.
Ina - you should frame it and show it off - that charm bracelet sounds wonderful - more later. Salud.
Your bracelet is a beauty. Thanks for reminding me of this very sweet memory.
I got a silver chain charm bracelet in high school (you and I both went to hs in the 60s when the bracelets were a huge fashion) and it slowly filled up with expressions of my interests--a silver ice skate, a field hockey player, acting in school plays and building the sets, etc. My jr year in ollege I did a study abroad probram and between the summer and autumn terms I travelled around a large part of w Europe. I created a gold bracelet with charms I bought as souvenirs in each place I visited, so there is a tulip from Holland, etc.
I quit wearing the bracelets in the 1980s when they went out of fashion and I was in a "dress for success" sort of job and wore a gray suit and silk bow tie every day. It's time to get them back out!
I look forward to seeing your bracelets too Miz Dorine - and love the story about the canning rings - now that's an article right there - shows you were always a little cook hanging about the kitchen! Thanks bunches for dropping by - it is always nice to see you.!!! Salud.
Although a very dear friend of mine, Barbara, gave me a sapphire bracelet for my September b-day, very lovely.
Thanks Laurun - lol - yes, I sound like a Mardi Gras float!!! look like one too. Salud.
Rose...wow good to see you more later.
Stephanie - thanks -I have a small wrist too - I look like an opera singer.
Salud.
You survived with all your formidable charms (and jewelry) in tact plus all the loving wisdom you have gathered since!
My mom bought me a charm bracelet when I was little..each charm was a letter of my name in silver. I still have the bracelet somewhere...(saving for the day when I might need it to remember?...hoping that's a joke!) Love to you and your sweeties! (2 and 4 legged)
Krista - I'm thinking of embrodering my name and addresses on everything for the same reason - lol...we'll both be in the same boat my dear - you paddle and I'll row...Salud.
Kate - sounds beautiful and a nice reminder of things that were important to you - I'd love to see a picture! Salud.
From a man's point of view...well, mine anyway...I never wore a wristband, a pendant. ear rings or anyting like tat.
I spent much of my time in the bush and on the sports field. Those are areas where you can have your jewelry caught in thorns or your ears ripped open in a scrum.
Furthermore, here in SA you don't encourage these crazy street loons to eye your stuff. Even my cell phone is SO flat that you can't see it in my shirt pocket.
But I love that bracelet of yours. It would be agreat idea to add charms that have some meaning for you. For you to look at when you have a quiet thoughtful moment.
Salud. Enjoy your break away. Come back safely now.
but this is something real special...God bless you...
Kate - I love it and have commented!!! thanks so much...Salud.
I know my grandma and my mom have a charm bracelet that I will inheret one day!
By the way, I collect charms and I put them on to a large necklace that I have...or I will add them to bracelets that I have or have bought...I was inspired by some charm books that I bought!
Tracy Zabar has written a book on charm bracelets (which I have..the book has photos in it!) There are several books on charm bracelets..including another book which I also have "My Mothers Charms" or something like that...anyhow! YOu might want to check them out! Barnes and Noble has a few charm books as well! It's fun to see what people have collected over the years as well as what people will make too!!
Hope you have fun with your charms! LOL!
But, I do find jewelry..and all of the time!! I just simply add it to my "charm" collection and keep on going! I also use broken or the other half of a lost earring as a charm too! That's fun to add to my collection..and that way I can also reuse the item in a different way!!
