This was forwarded to me:
Judy Wallman, a professional genealogical researcher, discovered that Hillary Clinton's great-great uncle, Remus Rodham, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889.
The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture is this inscription: 'Remus Rodham; horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'
Judy e-mailed Hillary Clinton for comments.
Hillary's staff of professional image adjusters sent back the following biographical sketch:
"Remus Rodham was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory . His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."
And THAT is how it's done folks! ----------- GET READY!!!!-------

(The real answer) I Googled this and found about 12 sites, all of which just repeated this, none discussing its truthfulness. I posted it because it was funny and a good extreme example of political campaign rhetoric.
In any event, true or not, it wouldn't effect my voting preference any more than something someone did 20 years ago would.
I love politics, it's its own form of entertainment. Let the carnival begin!
Maybe that's a good way to reframe it, Vivian — a carnival with a lot of freak shows.
You're welcome, Rex.
I didn't think about it, Ellyn, but Snopes would be the place to check.
Ann, horse thief was probably an respected profession, somewhere, sometime.
Thanks, Tom and Sandra.
I don't think that alone makes it false necessarily. More suspect, yes.
That is amusing. I am neither for Hillary or horse stealing, but I have a story not quite as drastic.
My grandfather, Layfette Bruce, was arrested for horse stealing here in Montana and got thrown in Deer Lodge for six years. Earlier one of his ancestors rode with Jesse James and got himself killed during a robbery. Needless to say, I'm not too proud of that side of the family. He left Grandma with nine kids and went to Big Timber and married another woman.
The other side of the family was pretty close-mouthed. Don't know what they got into, other than the middle of Montana.
It's a good thing we aren't judged by everybody according to our ancestors antics.

Well, Kimberly, it's early yet. We just starting the amateur mudslinging.
Rest easy
Give him time; I am sure Remus will find a way of being related to Obama before too long
Instead of "swiftboating" maybe we will now start to use the word "remusing." :)
Does anyone else imagine that there's some anonymous guy working in a basement office who makes up these supposed true stories? Ten treats from kindergarden kids; the man who shared two lungs and lived to tell about it; Macy's and their cookie recipe.
Some are so well done, you hate that they're anonymous. I'd really like to know who wrote them so I could pat the guy on the back. And many have the same tone--they must be put out by the same guy.
The question is whether he's in the basement of his own free will or chained ? :)
