My Brother was Robbed!!

Every year the women in my family get together to make Christmas cookies.  It has become a tradition over the past few years.  I think my daughter looks forward to it more than anyone.  She loves the Russian Tea Cookies with all of the powdered sugar.  I got a call from my sister in law yesterday, and she was not able to host the cookie baking extravaganza.  Their house was ransacked and robbed on Friday, while they were at work. 

My brother is quite wealthy, and has accumulated some wonderful things.  They robbers not only stole everything, but made a huge mess and dumped out drawers.  All of their electronic equipment including TVs, gaming equipment and games, stereos, DVDs, Cd's, jewelery, antiques, cash, and even the Christmas presents!  They took the extra set of keys to the cars and my brother's driver's license too.  She was still taking an inventory of what was taken, so she can report it to her home owners insurance.  She said that they have a very high deductible, but due to the value of things taken, she would be able to receive some compensation. 

My home has been broken into and robbed many times, and it is such a violation.  My sister in law told me it is not the things, it is just the fact that someone disrespected her family and her home so much.  It is unsettling.  It is like they leave a black cloud there after they leave with your things.  It is hard to feel safe.  What a thing to go through.  Cookies will have to wait.

It is a shame. It would be nice if the stolen items could be recovered. The mental pain has to be tremendous.

It does leave a cloud. We were broken into right about 25 years ago and it made me feel so at risk for it happening again that we moved. I just couldn't stay in that place anymore. I hope the police catch the guys who did it and recover most of the goods, if not all. This is a really rotten thing to happen to someone any time of the year.

Sue this is the second time I have read about a robbery. Sue S. was robbed last night. It terrible that during the holiday season when we are supposed to be celebrating peace and goodwill some are busy trying to steal from good people. I am relieved to hear no one was hurt.

Dreadful.

I've been robbed (back when I lived on a first floor apartment) and it can really set you back. And yes, it makes you feel violated in such an icky way to have your personal stuff messed with and taken.

It was crazy..the only thing that they stole was the little unicorn jewlery box & it didnt even have anything in it... they just took that, and left i guess...

It's such a terrible feeling. The worst part is the personal things that can't be replaced. People that do this are amongst the lowest of the low in my mind.

The feeling of being violated is the biggest thing to try to get over. When I was still in high school, I was working at my parent's convience store, when some low life came in and robbed me. He went to the freezer, took out a 12 pack of beer, walked up to the counter and pulled out a gun. He didn't take any money or anything else, the only thing he took was the beer. To this day I can feel the fear and see the gun pointing at me. Living in a small town and having Barney Fife for a police force, I never reported it or told my parents. After that day, I started to keep a bat behind the counter.

I am sorry to hear that, sometimes it seems that nothing is sacred anymore but then, for every negative act I see five positive ones so I, as always, will retain my sense optimism....

I am so sorry that your brother and his family were robbed. I agree, it is a terrible violation and makes you feel so unsafe in your own home afterwards. I, too, hope the robber(s) will be caught and the belongings recovered.

So sorry! I have never been in that spot, but have been told how violating it feels.
We don't have an alarm, but we do have neighbors...EVERY house around us has one or two people home all day. It is weird because many of us work at home...I used to do it regularly, too.

That is very sad I hope that your brother and his wife will get what was taken back. I hate hearing about this it is very sad.
That's terrible! The things can of course be replaced, but getting back the feeling of comfort and security in the home is much harder to recreate.

I have been robbed before. It leaves you feeling very violated and it makes your insurance rates and deductibles go up if there are more than 2 in a year.

That is horrible. I can understand the feeling. I have a party at my apartment once when I was younger and, though it wasn't ransacked, I had some things tolen by people that were supposed to be my friends. I still don't know which of them did or were in any way involved. Just know none of them are in my life any longer and am glad that I am in a different, safer place.

Oh dear that's terrible and some things like antiques can't be replaced. I'm sorry this happened and it's something that is hard to get over - feeling invaded and knowing losers have been digging in your stuff is the pits. Sending a prayer...Salud.

I'm so sorry for that terrible situation! I cannot begin to know what it feels like as I have never been robbed but can imagine the disbelief they felt when entering there home. Poor poor people. I hope they are able to put the pieces back together and have a great holiday despite this.

Horrors, and at this time of year, that really does reek. Been there as well, and yup it ain't just the stuff, jumped at shadows for quite a while. My home, when I am in it and the door is closed is supposed to be my sanctuary, that one safe place, this ruins that for a person bigtime. Prayers with you all Sue.
