My Most Embarassing Mommy Moment

I knew that being a mommy was not going to be all magical or glamorous, but I had no idea how icky and embarrassing it could be!  Our son was just a couple of weeks old, and feedings were still especially tricky.  Although I was one of those breastfeeding mommies, and my son was a good nurser, things did not always go smoothly?

My father-in-law was visiting from out of state, so I took Alexander with me into my bedroom to nurse.  Sitting cross-legged on the bed in my flannel pajamas, and Alex sitting up on the nursing pillow, trying to burp him after a particularly good feeding.  I wasn't having any luck, so my ever-helpful husband recommended that I put they baby over my shoulder.

I placed a dainty little burp cloth over my shoulder, and hoisted the baby.  I began patting his back.  Alex let out not just a little baby burp, but the entire contents of his stomach!  My mommy-pride shattered and I became very alarmed when I realized what the hot liquid spilling down my back and into the back of my pajamas was.  I screeched in surprise and immediately held the baby out for my husband to take.

"What?" my husband asked me, worrying there was something wrong with the baby.  I leaped off the bed, flung the bedroom door open, and ran down the hall towards the bathroom, yelling, "My underwear is full of puke!"

Only after I was in the bathroom and had shut the door did I realize what I held yelled loudly enough for my father-in-law to hear.  My husband soon knocked on the door, which I opened just far enough for him to shove through some clean clothing.  I didn't quite have the door closed again when I overheard his stifled laughter break through, along with the chuckling of his father, echoing down the hall.  A moment of true mommy-mortification!
