THE GREAT ICE STORM OF 2007

AND HOPEFULLY THE LAST ONE I'LL EVER SEE!!

When the rain started coming down I wasn't worried.

When the air turned cold, I still did not worry.

When the lights flickered, I was calm, this happens all the time.

They flickered again....but didn't come back on. Fine, this won't last long, I'm sure.

A couple of hours later we were worried.

Branches were cracking and falling all over the neighborhood. Still the rain came down, still the cold air remained...the ice grew thicker on all outdoor surfaces, beautiful yes, but a sign of what we were dealing with.

DAY ONE

Our lovely Oak tree was falling apart around it....we were sad with the few branches that had succumed.

WE SEE THE BEAUTY BUT ARE ALSO LEERY OF THE COMING DAMAGE

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE...ICE ON THE FENCE

ICE COATS EVERYTHING

OUR WARMTH FOR 3 DAYS

DAY TWO - ICE COATS EVERYTHING

SMALL TREE ON SIDE OF HOUSE

ICE PATIO SET

ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE LOSS OF POWER

AFTERMATH - BROKEN GREAT OAK

CLOSE UP OF FALLEN BRANCHES

WELL...IT'S ALL OVER WITH NOW.

Let's hope the snow coming our way won't be as bad as the weathermen are saying.

There are still many people here in Oklahoma without power, please keep them in your thoughts.

Katherine, I am happy you are safe, these are beautiful pictures and it looked like that here one morning only and it warmed up quickly so we were very lucky, I hope you and the other people there do not suffer more damage and that those without power, get it restored quickly. Something is supposed to start here tonight and I hope it is not bad, I don't like bad weather any more, used to be able to navigate in it , not anymore, take care.

I know flit...very sad, I think that bothered me worse then being without power! And yes I did get some awesome pictures and so did Hubby, those will be uploaded later.

Thank you June, things are better, except I'm sitting here at home instead of being with my family tonight for our big Xmas Bash up north in Kansas, snow packed and ice covered roads does not make for safe driving.

Thank you Ernie, it could of been a lot worse, at least no trees or limbs fell on the house or autos.

How beautiful the ice encrusted leaves,trees,fence ...your fountain looked like a sugarplum confection... but I know the danger and glad you are out of it...stay safe!

this storm was horrible i live in tulsa and we got hit HARD im still without power but thankfully i have a nice warm place to stay!

I was hoping someone would post some pictures of the ice storm aftermath. Isn't it interesting how something so destructive could yet be so beautiful? It always awes me. Your pictures tell such a story. I feel so badly about the old oak. I hope it survives the breaks. You may have to pain tree wound gunk over the larger breaks on the branches to keep infection down, or you may lose the tree later.

I hope no lives were lost in this storm. I dread ice storms. We are just way too dependent on electricity for everything.

Yes Beverly it is interesting the on one hand we are awed by the beauty but also sad because of the consequences, I'm hoping after we trim the Oak and do some work on him that he will survive, thanks for you kind comment.

I've seen lots of ice sculptures but never any quite as beautiful as these done by mother nature. Thanks for sharing your photos.

The news hasn't reported any freezings Arlene, the coldest it has fallen to was in the 20's last night...let's hope everyone gets heat back soon!

Hi William, I spent many hours just sitting and watching the fire. Plus there was the adding of wood and the poking about! All is well for us and pretty much make to normal.

I can really understand how intense this is. A few years back we had a very wet snow and then it began to melt and then we got bad icy cold front and it froze the partially melted snow and trees were broken every where we looked. It was a terrible mess and some large branches came down and hit whatever was under them.

I hope the worst part is over for all of you and that everyone gets their electric back. If we had lost our electric we would have been in real trouble because we have no other source of heat.

Looks like you got it worse than we did, and I just got power back. We got less than an inch of ice, and they are still getting the power on here, almost a week later...

Hi Wiaka, thanks for stopping in. We've had the snow..melting to ice before..probably every year, this from last week was pouring rain freezing with more rain on top of the frozen...I think that's what did it! The roads were pretty clear too, so people could get out to shelters, it wasn't as bad as it could of been that's for sure.

Thank you Mary, there are still 1,000's of people without power. The roads weren't all that bad until this past weekend when another storm moved in, but the roads quickly dried out around here.

I know what you're going through. I experience the blizzard of 93 in Gatlinburg TN. Being a Floridian and never had the pleasure of seeing snow until then, I was stuck on the top of a hill with no power, food,phone or wood. I thought I was going to die with temperature below zero in my house so I burned all my furniture and everything else that was burnable. The weather announcer said the night before, we'd see a foot of snow.... try six? I thought I'd be smart the night before and parked my pick-up truck at the bottom of the hill so I could get to work in the morning. Well, when I woke up, I couldn't open my front door and when I looked out the window to see my car, it disappeared, covered completely with snow. That went on for 9 days until a friend finally rescued me. LOL, I soon moved back to Florida.

Oh, I forgot, I did have some food. 2 frozen bananas, 2 small cans of tomato paste, crackers and a case of flavor ice which I lived on for 9 days. It's amazing how good tomato paste, flavor ice and crackers are when you're hungry. On day 7 I began to wonder if I would have to resort to eating a mixture of dog, cat and pig food. By then I managed to get the front door open, went outside, stood on the top step with snow up to my waist, snow still falling and screamed in my doggie voice.... Stoooooooooooooooop! About an hour later, it did. Tee hee, I wished I'd thought of that sooner.

I'm ready for an ice storm. A couple of days of enforced stay-at-home near the fire can be rejuvenating. Of course I'm pretty hardy, having grown up in PA. Thanks for the pics.

I agree Ann, it was kind of nice to not have much to do but watch the fire and hang out with the dogs and cat. Hubby still went to work, the roads weren't really affected all that much, I dread the kind of ice storm where one slides instead of drives. Glad you stopped by and enjoyed the pics.

wow, i had to come back... these photos are excellent... sooo sad you lost that tree... the ice was very pretty on all those surfaces but i know it was not fun to live through it... glad you are okay... Blessings...
