THE GREAT ICE STORM OF 2007
AND HOPEFULLY THE LAST ONE I'LL EVER SEE!!
When the rain started coming down I wasn't worried.
When the air turned cold, I still did not worry.
When the lights flickered, I was calm, this happens all the time.
They flickered again....but didn't come back on. Fine, this won't last long, I'm sure.
A couple of hours later we were worried.
Branches were cracking and falling all over the neighborhood. Still the rain came down, still the cold air remained...the ice grew thicker on all outdoor surfaces, beautiful yes, but a sign of what we were dealing with.
DAY ONE
Our lovely Oak tree was falling apart around it....we were sad with the few branches that had succumed.

WE SEE THE BEAUTY BUT ARE ALSO LEERY OF THE COMING DAMAGE

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE...ICE ON THE FENCE

ICE COATS EVERYTHING

OUR WARMTH FOR 3 DAYS

DAY TWO - ICE COATS EVERYTHING
SMALL TREE ON SIDE OF HOUSE

ICE PATIO SET

ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE LOSS OF POWER

AFTERMATH - BROKEN GREAT OAK

CLOSE UP OF FALLEN BRANCHES

WELL...IT'S ALL OVER WITH NOW.
Let's hope the snow coming our way won't be as bad as the weathermen are saying.
There are still many people here in Oklahoma without power, please keep them in your thoughts.

you got some great pictures out of it though... very well done
Happy Holidays!
Thank you June, things are better, except I'm sitting here at home instead of being with my family tonight for our big Xmas Bash up north in Kansas, snow packed and ice covered roads does not make for safe driving.
Thank you Ernie, it could of been a lot worse, at least no trees or limbs fell on the house or autos.
we are getting our snow /ice fun now...yipee!
Please do keep warm! :)
Great article!!!
Thank you Alie - yes very pretty...Happy Holidays to you too
I'm glad you are safe and warm Elsie and no longer need to get out and about in nasty weather. Thank you for your kind words and encourgement
Yes very beautiful Sheila, to look at...now it's all melted..you know the roads and sidewalks weren't bad, just everything the air could get to I guess. Stay warm hon, Thanks for all you do.
Sheila you are such a BIRD brain... LOL : - )
WOW, thanks for letting me know Alie
Kind of like that land that Frosty the Snowman lived in or the home of the Ice Queen.
Happy warm to you!
Hi Karen, thanks for coming by and wishing us safe and warm
Thank you Heather, we were very lucky to have a fireplace and the wood to use in it. Glad you have your power back.
I KNOW Sharon...isn't that crazy...Thank you :- )
Incredible photos, Katherine.
It is good you have a wood stove. The power outages aren't so feared......
I hope no lives were lost in this storm. I dread ice storms. We are just way too dependent on electricity for everything.

Yes Beverly it is interesting the on one hand we are awed by the beauty but also sad because of the consequences, I'm hoping after we trim the Oak and do some work on him that he will survive, thanks for you kind comment.
Thanks Holly for you kind thoughts, the snow storm passed us by but it's bitter cold old.
Glad you are staying warm Julia, it is terrible that we still have folks without lights here in Tulsa, I truly feel for them.
Thank you Nancy for stopping in, the kind comments and keeping us in your thoughts.
Hi Lune, we were lucky to have the fireplace and the wood to put in it. Mother Nature loves to play little tricks on us to keep us on our toes. Thanks for your kind comment...I am glad to be back.
Alison thanks for stopping in, it was a mixed bag, beautiful but so damaging.
Thanks for coming by Allison, I remember past winters when other parts of the country went through what we did last week, wasn't eastern Canada without power for a couple of weeks a few years back?
The photos are breathtaking
I feel sorry for the poor old oak tree.
Katherine, Thank You for giving us an up close view of the Ice storm.
I'm so glad that you are OK and I am sending prayers of those still without power.
Ice once or ice twice,
Both are never nice,
Not once or twice.
I hate ice except in my cola.
Wonderful photos!
Thank you Apryl, very kind of you and you are welcome, glad to be able to show some beauty from the past week's events.
Thanks for dropping in Marge, very nice of you to be thinking the folks out this way. I'll give the oak tree and extra hug from all us tree lovers!
Hi William, I spent many hours just sitting and watching the fire. Plus there was the adding of wood and the poking about! All is well for us and pretty much make to normal.
Thank you for the delightful poem Maggie : - )
thanks Margaret....Beautiful, yes...cold, not too bad...having to live in the dark for 3 days...priceless... : - )
I hope the worst part is over for all of you and that everyone gets their electric back. If we had lost our electric we would have been in real trouble because we have no other source of heat.
Blessings to all of you.
Oklahoma should not be run by Okies....
I like that one too Altair...Merry Christmas to you too
I hear ya Dan, what's with the roads too?

Merry Christmas Blessings to you and yours...
