Don't be caught this weekend without a topic!  Grammar Grater: Temptations of the Flush (Grammar Grater, MPR) Who doesn't love to grapple over grammar? Take a straw poll of how people use or misuse the words "flesh" and "flush", and if that doesn't get the conversation going just ask them if they drink soda or pop. Adding up the celebrity endorsements (MPR) If a politician is good enough for a porn star, is the candidate good enough for you? Anyway, ask the people around you: Are there any celebrities that would inspire you to vote for someone? How about against someone? E-mail scam targets holiday giving (MPR) Find out if people you know fall for phishing or other fraudulent email scams...Or if they think there's an especially toasty place in the afterlife for con artists who pose as charities. Share your own conversation-starters for opportunities to drop the latest buzz words, to break the ice with that shy neighbor, or to offer a friendly diversion for a favorite - and currently beleaguered - bank teller.

If more people pay more attention to the celebrity endorsements than the candidates, why not have a celebrity debate? What could be more informative than watching Barbara Streisand go nose to nose with Oprah in a celebrity smack-down?

Or Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn accusing each other's candidate of --- , well, not even god knows what will come out of their mouths in front of a camera.

As for the Republicans, sad to say, we do not have much in the way of celebrities, or endorsements.

The only celebrity they can claim is -- Ben Stein.

The most popular "conversation starter" topic in my little part of the world is without a doubt "global warming" or "global climate change". After that, it's the (seemingly) cast of thousands running for president.

Are my friends and I influenced by celebrity endorsement of a candidate? Not in the least.

Are my friends and I influenced by Al Gore and the scientific viewpoints of our climate issue? Absolutely.

In my part of the country use the words, "Good liberal." You'll get a woogie in the eye.
