The setting is 1959, and Linda is documenting a memory quilt with her grandmother. This book means a lot to me because it is in memory to my parents and my husband's grandparents. Together, F. Jay and I talked about our life in the 50's and wrote down some of our recollections. To our kids and grandkids, this book is truly our message of love. Please join us in remembering those days before television. As stated in the book, Linda squealed, "No television! I have to write that down."



 



I would love to discuss the book with you and talk about your and my childhood in the 1950's.

By the way, I am thinking about sending this book, along with two other of my books of possible interest, to Martha Stewart.  Do you think she would air them on her television show?  She probably agrees with the statement Linda squealed.

Jan, I was borned in 1948, so we are not that far apart. You look so young though and look at me, LOL. Did you ever attend a quilting party?

I remember going to the nieghbors because they had just bought a colored TV , and watching I Dream Of Jeanie in color . It was so exciting !!!

You are right Larry and that was not available in the 50's. I remember standing outside where there was good light and my mother taking my picture with the Brownie.

Nancy, I did not watch color TV until I was married. The black and white worked just fine at my parents. I don't know if any of you remember Ed Sullivan. That was my mother's favorite show along with Queen for a Day.

I didn't say that I wanted to go back to 1959. I just wanted to talk about it to my grandkids and their friends. I really like this age of technology.

It probably wouldn't hurt sending it to Oprah, too. I'm sure she's very busy on the campaign trail for Sen. Obama, but her staff most likely does the majority of the read-thrus before she even touches a book!

I like Martha and I am glad you liked my article. I also like Oprah but does she ever features Children's Books on her show. I have seen Martha do that. Actually between you and me, one of the co-writers of this book is often seen on Oprah's website.

Marie, I hope I have not over stressed that point. If you like quilts, you will like the book. The book is about family values. Granny carefully selects material from the quilt to remind her granddaughter that God, Family, and Country are what she holds dear to her heart. When you select "A Message of Love" by April Robins at amazon.com, I have put out a nice blog about it. That I think is very informative.

Do I remember Ed Sullivan and when Elvis and the Beatles were on? OF COURSE. And how about American Bandstand... The Monkees... Connie Francis ... Hot chocolate with marshallows floating on top... Annette and Frankie... When the Flintstones and the Jetsons were on prime TV... Alfred Hitchcock Presents ... The Monster Mash... Listening to comedy shows on a radio ... a hi fi stero with a reel-to-reel tape player ... a record player that played 45s ... Chatty Cathy ... Circus Boy ... Sky King ... Alfalfa and Darla ... and I could go on and on.

I'm going to look into your Book, April. It sounds wonderful. No, I've never belonged to a quilt club (they always met during the day when I've worked) but my mom used to belong to one in the church.
