Life
is not a Barbie doll’s house--
spotless and somewhere-over-the-rainbow-like
Life is…
leaving your Pepsi out the fridge,
that old pizza crust on a plate, on the floor
where you ate almost como Dios te trajo al mundo*
with your lover
naked
in its conception,
life is not that section of farándula** and fame in the newspaper
life isn’t the wardrobe Lucy went in, although I’d like to think that.
Life is…
that dark alley people say you should avoid,
those bumps you trample over with your bike
Life is…
that nail in your wall you swore you’d take out,
but that somehow is still there.
Life….
is that nice pair of shoes you haven’t worn yet
because you’re waiting for the perfect moment.
It’s…
that box
that once contained shoes
you threw away.
It’s that
book
you forgot about--
not even giving it a chance.
It’s that watermelon lollypop
you tasted
that reminded you of your childhood days.
That Neutrogena Face Wash
that revives your teenage years
in that house with no fears, no self-esteem and no sex.
Life is that cold coffee I tasted on my boyfriend’s tongue a while ago.
It was that taste that started this poem.
*como Dios te trajo al mundo: like God brought you to this world
**farándula: show business

To Know Me Is To Love Me
that reminded you of your childhood days." Thanks for taking us on the journey with you!
that nail in your wall you swore you'd take out,
but that somehow is still there."
and,
"That Neutrogena Face Wash
that revives your teenage years
in that house with no fears, no self-esteem and no sex."
Not to dark and not to bright, it avoids calling on extreems to make your point. Very well done.
Great stuff!
