Artistic Therapy (Artistic Therapeutics)
can help those Artists out there (some unawares) who only occasionally utilize their gifts and talents. Taking time each day to develop your gifts and talents brings about joy, a sense of accomplishment, and further self-discovery. Artistic Therapy also opens doors for Creative people to interact with other Creatives.
Not only is the experience of creating artworks enjoyable, it is also eye-opening -- in that you discover things about yourself that you did not know were inside of you. . .
Your emotions, feelings, moods and attitude are reflected in the creation of the art that you produce. It is worth picking up pens and applying them to paper for the Writers and Poets out there. And, it is wonderful to open up new windows of interior views of yourself when applying paint to canvas. Photography is a way to let others SEE the world as you SEE it -- expanding the minds, and sometimes opening the hearts of others. Craftwork lets you SEE another dimension of yourself. And, songs from the heart, when heard in your ears, and vocalized for others, is a gift given.

The spoken Word artistically and therapeutically applied is HEALING in action. Filmworks with healing messages are much needed today. There is a "call" for Videographers who are able to recognize and identify the pain in the lives of others, and capture on film a definitive avenue of restoration and resolution. Visual TESTIMONIES of a different kind from the violent imagery we have become comfortable with are long overdue for such a time as this.
Accepting your gifts and talents and owning them is one of the focal points of Artistic Therapeutics. Being responsible for the gifts and talents we have been endowed with and showing forth accountability by utilizing those gifts and talents for the enjoyment, encouragement, inspiration, and betterment of ourselves and others is well worth the process. When we are happy and have a sense of JOY, we spread forth that joyful feeling to others.
We all will have to account for what we hold inside of us. What will you say when the question is asked, "What did you give of yourself from your soul . . . to your community, your family, your friends, mankind and the world?"
Artistic Therapeutics can help you to discover the answers to that question.

FOR THIS EVENING,
Blessings and happy creative discoveries ~

Thank you for the reminder. Summer 2006, in conjunction with some traditional therapy work, I took a weekly art class. The sketching and watercoloring really helped me get reconnected with a lost part of me. Your article reminds me that I need to stay connected with that part of me.
I paid to check three extra, overweight suitcases on my flight to France this summer, just so that my three art bags could be safely nestled inside. I brought them here so I could stay connected, yet I have not used them. That needs to change....
I dragged one of them on our trip to Barcelona in November, but, as my daughter even pointed out, I never touched them. I guess I need to look at what is up with this. We head to London next weekend and I will make a point of carrying our sketch pads and pencils. Because of you~your article, I will make sure I use them this time!!
Ah ~ FRANCE! I loved Paris! London was a bit rainy when I was there, but oh, the BOOKS!
Will be hearing a lot more from you, Susan. And thanks for commenting on this article, Creative One. (smile)

Your Friend,

I've since taken up photography, but that should be in addition to rather than instead of drawing. Crafting also has taken a backseat as of late. My main focus has been writing when I do apply myself creatively.
Your group and the posts of the members have made me reconsider this slumber period. Perhaps the muse has woken up once again.
Thank you Rene for all you do for these groups.
Blessings ~

We Artists go through phases ~ like you've mentioned the drawing ~ and then a break ~ and then photography ~ and then crafting sits a minute ~ and then writing ~ and NOW ART JOURNALS and COLLABORATIONS! ( l o l ).
Your Collaborative idea with Gideon is very inspirational for parents and motivating for the children.
Jennifer, your MUSE is WIDE AWAKE!
BIG HUGS!
Your Friend,
Rene A.
The journal is great for mommy / Gideon quiet time. I'd love to see some others picking up the children's journal idea.. Gideon really had a blast making collages. He doesn't know about the book.. I wanted to show him but I worried that he'd rip it apart. He sometimes rips his artwork apart later. You know.. boys, lol :(
Yes, my muse is awake, but more so in the vein of writing.. I'm letting Gideon help guide me with his book. He chose all his papers and pictures and made the collages himself. I asked him later if he'd like to do more tomorrow and he said yes. *smile*
When I was young, I was always surrounded by art, music, and creativity. I'm from a family of very gifted artists/musicians/song writers/fashion designers/writers/inventors. I developed a LOVE for the ARTS at a very young age. And throughout life the effects of this foundational upbringing brought me to places I would not have otherwise travelled.
Gideon's decision making with regard to his ARTISTIC CREATIONS allows his mind to expand and develop in other ways . . . i.e., Gideon begins to see ways in which he can shape the world around him and his environment. He learns that he is able to modify what he SEES.
One way to stop Gideon from ripping his art apart is to show him how to frame it. Then allow him to help you to hang it up so that he learns that his artwork is for viewing and appreciation. Then he will not let anyone else destroy his artwork either ~ lol. I used this technique on my little niece and nephew when they were both young. They learned to keep all of their toys in tip-top shape! That way, they were able to pass them to others who needed them, and learned the art of charity ~ how to donate and give. This works great in the classroom too.
I'm excited about your collaborative project with Gideon, Jennifer. Do keep us all posted!

He has this huge craft box here to explore all sorts of creativity with random odds and ends from gold trinkets to ribbons to fabric scraps and more.
I loved art from a young age (I still have some drawings here from when I was 8 years old - I'll be posting some of them soon) so, there's no surprise he enjoys it as well. :)
I haven't shown him how to frame his art, but he does hang it on his wall. He made this cute art project in playgroup with snowballs (cotton balls) and he's already ripped most of the cotton off. I never even got a photo of it. :(
I'll have to see if we can't use some recycled cardboard and design some of our own frames (a craft project in itself!)
Thanks for the tip!
Gideon's pretty gentle with his toys, though... at least for now. We've tried to teach him to keep things nice.
WE all know that Gideon is an exceptionally artistic child and how he really gets into his artistic creations. WE are truly enjoying you and Gideon's ART JOURNAL COLLABORATIVE PROJECT, and we look forward to more of Gideon's photography work as well {lol}.
The framing with Gideon will be fun and easy to do. You can also pick up mat board, and/or already cut matting from the art supply store. Gideon will enjoy learning how to frame.
I'm a big advocate for teaching children how to keep their toys nice, be gentle with them, and cherish them. If I hadn't let other children take over my toys after I was grown, I'd probably have a $mint! My toys were worth a lot of money -- Barbie Dolls, talking dolls (from when they first made dolls that could talk), comic books . . . such TREASURES!
WE'll all be waiting on your next installment of your ART JOURNAL COLLABORATIVE PROJECT with Gideon Jennifer!
Thanks for commenting.

Love Maryanne
Rene ... it is a powerful writing because we all know you practise what you preach. The Bible speaks of "building one another up". You do that for all of us. Thanks.
PS. I AM SO JEALOUS of people that can paint and draw :) I worked on developing my right brain ... and it really did help; but mainly to make more vivid dreams. I still can't draw.
Maryanne ~ I am too. I believe it is the best choice for the DREAM WORKSHOP. I'll be messaging you! I believe that readers of "WHAT MOTHER TERESA TAUGHT ME" will be pleasantly surprised, and very enlightened by your literary work of note Maryanne.
WE are all looking forward to your DREAM WORKSHOP, and we have been working away on it. WE are so honored to have you share your insight with us.
Blessings ~
Rene
As soon as you have done your first work of art, please tell us all so that we can celebrate with you!

Melissa is doing such a fine job with this Group. I applaud her!

Rene: This is a wonderfully inspirational article. I especially liked the following lines that encourage responsibility. "Being responsible for the gifts and talents we have been endowed with and showing forth accountability by utilizing those gifts and talents for the enjoyment, encouragement, inspiration, and betterment of ourselves and others is well worth the process."
Hi Barbra ~ Thank you very much. I read you "Footprints", and I was impressed by how well you write. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be looking forward to reading more of your literary works.
