Does anyone know how many people are registered on Gather.  Is it 10,000 or 1,000,000.  It seems I always see the same people and was wondering who else is out there.  Please post at least a hi.  Want to see how many different people will respond.

That's a good question, and others have noticed the discrepancy. There are probably much fewer active unique members than the number listed. Some people registered to leave a comment or vote for something but have never been back since, some were active members at some point but left, and some "members" are alter egos of other members.

If you do a search for 'people' and type in the search phrase "gather" there are 206,473 shown (at the time of my search). Wonder how many points you'd pull if all 206,473 responded to your posting here?????

Gather claims to have a membership of over 450,00...but not all are active by any means. Once you join Gather, they claim you as a member no matter if you never even logged in again and have left the site. At best, there are maybe a couple thousand active members tops...more like several hundred who participate quite a bit.

I addressed this question and the numbers do not reflect other than a superficial way.
You tube and even Myspace offer tracking.
Gather relys on a repository point contributed and includes access to their community.
You contribute to Gather- they give you points and they become the repository for your place in their community.
Their audience is narrow-cast by so many issues and everyone has their job to connect all the dots.
I would estimate that the participated complete gather community consists of about 50, 000 audience- then you have to narrow down particulars as to know you have an audience so it is only known when you get so many direct comments and a feature that you know you hit upon something that strikes a larger audience chord.
That is why Gather is a small community for me and my Youtube is my world audience.
That is why Google Bought Youtube and it fits -reaching the largest audience to this day!

Interesting question. I often wonder how many actually hang out at Gather. Of the 408 contacts, only about 55 comment regularly. As you said, we see the same names over and over again, which is fine because that way they've become friends.
