The holiday season is in full delight! Walking outside my office doors after a busy day's work, I see the lights on the buildings and the center of our city lit up full of decoration. It makes me smile to know this time of year has its charm of enjoyment, songs, remembrance and family. To sit and think of all the celebration and reflection, it's also a good time to think of what's planned for the next year.
For me, it's the Crown & Anchor SocietySM Member Cruise to South America, Santos to Valparaiso, February 10th through 25th on the Splendour of the Seas®. Nearing the end of her stay on the continent, the South American Member Cruise will begin the Sunday after 'Carnaval' and a month and a half before she heads to the Mediterranean.
The 15 Night Member Cruise begins in Sao Paulo (Santos), Brazil with the following ports of call:
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Monday, 2/11
At sea 2 days
Buenos Aires, Argentina Thursday, 2/14
Montevideo, Uruguay Friday, 2/15
At sea 3 days includes passing Cape Horn, Chile
Ushuaia, Argentina Tuesday, 2/19
Punta Arenas, Chile Wednesday, 2/20
At sea 2 days includes Strait of Magellan & Chilean Fjords
Puerto Montt, Chile Saturday, 02/23
At sea 1 day
Valparaiso, Chile Monday, 2/25
Over the next weeks leading up to departure, I made a list in preparation for the big event; but, definitely I need to check off the two following items. First, I will go to royalcaribbean.com and click on 'Before You Board'. There's a lot of valuable information, as well, a new section, 'Countdown to Cruise'.
Next, I will formulate my own personal itinerary of 'things to do' in each port of call. I anticipate the Copacabana in Rio, Florida Street in Buenos Aires, the penguins on Isla Magdalena, and the beautiful wine and scenery of Chile. I will post my ideas on here to see what you think. Do you have any ideas yourself? I want to hear because you might think of something better!
Until then, fluff your bows, light your candles and play one song of the season for me!
Also, feel free to read about our last Member Cruise of 2007, 'The Ultimate Alaska Member Cruise' posted on this site in our featured stories section. Post your own stories, comments and pictures from your own cruises.

The Gather folks have mentioned to me that they sponsored a 'Writers Cruises' on the Jewel of the Seas in 2006. There are some articles about the cruise on Gather if you do a search.
Barb: I have been to many of the islands, but never Puerto Rico. I have friends that have left on a cruise from there or lived there and they have told me all about the city and port. Very nice island.
darn...
HAPPY NEW YEAR...
