I've noticed each year the snafus for going east for the holidays has gotten worse. The worst so far was a THIRTY HOUR total trip from when we left for the airport until we got home.
That trip and the one the year after (also horribly delayed.. but they failed to tell that us until we were held hostage at the airport gate - Yes, we called ahead - SIX TIMES. They insisted that it was on time.)
So, as a result of that and the absorbitent airline cost and the hassle with customs ripping apart bags that took 3 hours to pack... we decided it's Amtrack for us this year. We leave Friday morning and now I just heard that Saturday... the day we arrive at our destination.. the ice storm is to attack. Great. Looks like we might be stranded in Chicago this year. I highly doubt the train will arrive to pick us up if the ice storm is hitting back east.
Why? Why? Why? And if it does come I'm going to be terrified of accidents in it. Uggh. I do not need this stress.
Of course HERE it will be nice Friday and Saturday... a lot of help that is. :-(

We are hoping for the best, but preparing for a long night in Chicago... just in case.
I guess you have to take a deep breath and realize it's not your fault, but it's also not the world conspiring against you. It just happens. Happy travels!
You might get lucky like we did and avoid it, though.
Car travel can be fun, but it's a lot slower - more than a day's drive, really. You are right, though things just happen, but it stinks. I keep equating the delay with time lost with my family and that makes it hurt - bad.
A bit obsessive??? LOL
Happy holidays
Indeed it is Lisa. Here's hoping this year is just a bit better.
One year we went to Vegas over Christmas and it was AWESOME (not very warm though)
With the exception of the long overlays I really have no issues being the one to travel.. it just stinks.
Thanks Corina. I will try to do just that. :)
