It's been a vicious cycle recently. I have trouble getting up in the morning and end up snoozing longer and longer. I get sleepy at work to the point of my eyes closing at my desk. I get home, I eat dinner. I hop into bed. I can't sleep. Then it starts all over again.
The girl whose friends used to make fun of her for going to sleep at 8:30 and waking up in a chipper mood, now can't sleep nor can she wake up.
I can't figure it out. Is it that fact that I have not been active at the gym? Or maybe it's the absolutely terrible diet I've been keeping? Is it stress? Or maybe it's the fact that because I don't like my office atmosphere, I have no desire to get up and just go like I used to? I can't figure out what is causing this lack of sleep and how to fix it. I can't take a sleeping pill because I need at least 8 hours of sleep to take one off those. I can't drink the chocolate milk that used to put me to bed because I have no milk...or chocolate syrup in the house.
I've never had this problem before and I can't figure out how to fix it. I want my weekends to be relaxing and I end up being so busy with stuff that I haven't slept in in weeks...not even when I took the entire week of Thanksgiving off.
HELPPPPPP!!!!

To get yourself out of this cycle, try benedryl for a few nights.
(An hour before you want to be asleep)
Then lay down and drink something hot.
(Hot chocolate or tea)
This is what I do when I get into that cycle.
Lavender is a very calming scent. Maybe you have a little lavender lotion somewhere at home? Also....vanilla and lemon are good scents to calm ones nerves.
Hope you get some sleep soon.
I've heard you should be off of a computer and away from a television for at least an hour before you go to bed. I don't do this because I'm most productive in the evening.
Do you have your Christmas tree up yet? I've been in a much better mood once it went up. I think it has to do with the lights.
I wish you the best of luck breaking this cycle.
Trish - I am Jewish so in general Iwe don't have trees! However, my mom and her boyfriend ended up buying a Hannukah tree for thier house! (A Christmas tree decorated for Hannukah!)
Leslie - 7AM??!?!?! I don't know how you do it! Do you sleep all day?"
Read a book, lay down on your side when you go in to go to sleep. The eye movement in this position helps to knock you out.
I heard the Tryptophan thing is a myth since the amount of tryptophan you need to fall asleep is wayyy more in a couple pieces of turkey. However, I'll give it a shot. Also, thanks for the other great suggestions!
My mom is brining me a couple of Ambien on Saturday.
