For those of you who got caught in these ice storms, please weigh in. Here are my questions:
1. What did you wish you had (besides power or electricity) on hand? I need to prepare for one that may be coming our way
2. If you were on the road when the conditions went from barely wet to ice-covered, how'd you drive? I ask THAT question because I was once in a parking lot when the lot turned to an ice covered sheet of glazed frozen rain and my car went sliding downwards, in a matter of minutes. Getting home was very, very hard. I should have holed up at a hotel or something. There were many near misses on that drive home.
Thanks for tips and input!

For my vehicle I load down my bed, right over the rear axle, with something(s) very heavy. Yes it eats the gas a little more, but the added traction is significant. Always, always go slow, watch out for the other guy and make time in your schedule for wear you are going.
If the store runs out of salt you can use kitty litter too.
I would not be prepared, there is never any snow in my area.
But what wonderful ideas I am reading here.
Thank you for the ideas and the article.
Andrea said and we bought food that is easy to heat up over fire.
Things to have on hand, well it depends on what kind of stove you have, whether you have a generator, etc. We keep plenty of bottled water, paper plates, plastic forks, spoons, etc. We also keep food that we can eat without having to heat it up (we have an electric stove). We keep lots of batteries available, and a flashlight where we will know where it is in every room.
