Meet My Part Time Cat, Dexter (Photo Essay)

In a few of my prior articles and photos I mentioned a beautiful young cat that hangs out on my porch for a good portion of most days. This anonymous cat would chase the squirrels and watch the birds (they're way to fast for him). I suspect that this fine feline took care of that little rat nesting in my vehicle problem I had not too long ago. For simply ridding me of that rat, I am forever grateful to this charcoal black beauty.

I have been trying for weeks to get photos of him because his color and markings are so remarkable, but was unable to do so until today.

So please meet my nextdoor neighbor's cat, Dexter.

When I was leaving to run an errand to FedEx, Dexter was in my yard. So I quickly parked the car and hopped out with my camera to get a few shots of him. It was at that time I noticed my nextdoor neighbor and her little girl playing with a remote control car in front of their home.

I found out that Dexter belongs to them and has recently lost his collar somewhere. I knew he was too clean and conditioned to be a stray anyway.

Dexter has the most interesting tiger stripe markings in his fur. He really is a beautiful kitty.

The little girl proceeded to show me her toy car and Dexter was definitely interested. He took a few paw swipes at it as it zoomed past him.

 

After about five minutes, he decided he had enough of the photo op and sauntered away to find something new and exciting to do.

Great essay! Yes, he is a beautiful cat (his coat almost looks blue).

We have one cat in our neighborhood (we call him Fat Cat) who loves to cross through our backyard everyday around noon time. My sister is home at that time and says she always sees him crossing through (doesn't stop to look at her or to play). Cats are so great!

I'm semi allergic to cats, Amanda. I tried to have one as a pet over 12 years ago. Even with meds and wiping down the cat with a pet safe anti-allergin, 6 months was all my body could stand. I placed the cat with a lady I worked with cause I couldn't keep her any longer.

Sorry to hear about your allergy! I feel like I am developing something. I break out sometimes after petting my cat. I have to wash my hands and any skin that has touched him. It sucks!

My sweet boy Fluffdaddy started off a part time kitty for some friends of mine who moved to Florida. I ended up inheriting him.
