It's our annual stocking-stuffer edition of the show this week, where we get together and offer some gift suggestions for the Musichead on your list -- or perhaps items you might consider adding to your own wish-list. Mark Wheat and The Current's Music Director Melanie Walker were my guests.
We unwrapped:
- Joy Division: New reissues of "Closer," "Unknown Pleasures" and "Still"
- "The Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration" box set
- Mystery Jets, "Zootime"
- Klaxons, "Myths of the Near Future"
- The Young Knives, "Voices of Animals and Men"
- "This Is Reggae Music" box set

I have kind of been eyeing theBrit Box Although I don't know a lot of those bands, I remember the golden age of Brit Pop and I've been feeling a little nostalgic lately.
I think the Joy Division reissues would be nice.
And I would have to add the DVD release of Flight of the Conchords for those who love the show. It's comedy, but their songs and videos are very clever.
Radiohead Box Set Label's Idea Not Band's
The band had nothing to do with it, if you want to give a great Radiohead gift get the In Rainbows gift set, and buy the cd's from their site.
This year who knows what musical stocking stuffers will come from Santa Schrenkler, because I haven't shopped yet. Eeek! I appreciate the way you unwrapped these items!
Interesting that Melanie and Mark both talked about bands that were important to their own personal/musical development...that's got me thinking.
Frick, that's a pretty good approach. Does the Mrs. surprise you with additional tracks in those compilations? That BritBox would be a sweet gift for someone who didn't own all those albums but wanted to capture the singles.
Thanks for the Pitchfork link & backstory, Kyle. Are you giving music for the holidays?
*tapping my teeth while considering "The Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration" box set* That's just some crazy kind of ideal. God, that SOUND.
I got my fiancee the latest from Jens Lekman, "Night Falls over Kortedala". Everyone could use more of him. I actually asked her for the Radiohead box set for Christmas, but I'd almost rather have the Burt Bacharach set instead.
Well Mac, I hope your family doesn't read this blog! They might discover that there is no Santa.
Kyle, Radiohead might not bet endorsing the box set, but I bet they won't turn down the cash from it.
Frick, I've been eying that Brit Box as well. I wouldn't mind finding that under the tree.
Todd, Your daughter is lucky to have such a cool dad who is will to take her to shows!
I saw this Roky Erickson documentary a few weeks ago and thought it might be a good gift, or rental.
Also thanks for the heads up on the is Is Reggae Music: The Golden Era 1960-1975 box I might have to look at getting that for my brother...
Yeah, This is Reggae Music: The Golden Era 1960-1975 is the holy grail....if you dig reggae music like myself!
