Sorry about your loss, but the one good thing is, she'll still be there when you get around to picking her up...and she won't be offended over you being late. I'm not trying to be crass about the situation; just maybe help to put a small grin on your face. My paternal grandparents were both cremated after passing and spent three years on a shelf in a storage room at the funeral home until a family member was finally notified they were ready and waiting to go home...as the mortuary had been sold. My father's ashes were delivered to my mother via the USPS. When the mail carrier knocked at her door and told mom she had a special delivery for her, my mother, who's blind asked where the package was from. When the mail carrier told her, mom excitedly announced that her husband had finally arrived home. The carrier just about passed out when she found out she had delivered his remains. She was going to put him in an urn on the mantle, but I convinced her to leave him in the sealed box he arrived in. Knowing mom, she would have ended up knocking home over...and vacuumed him up along with the dirt from the carpet.

I'm glad you have plans for your mom's ashes. My husband thought his grandmother's ashes had been scattered on a mountain in Maine three decades ago. Instead his dad had simply hidden the box in the rafters at their camp in the mountains. A year ago we found them and finally laid the poor woman to rest. Hang in there, Lloyd. Peace will come!

I'm sorry as well. I certainly understand slacking. I'm just blah this week. On Wednesday, we got the news that a friend's mother had died, my husband's sister lost the baby she was carrying, and my uncle died. My mother passed several years ago...so really sorry about your loss.

Ah, Lloyd. My sympathies. Don't go to do this task alone.

Slacking is good when one is worn out by events, but i still say you will feel better once this last deed is done.I even sat jon's ashes in front of the tv foe wrestling matches before he went in the lake. Crazy sounding, perhaps, but it made me FEEL better! Hope you do too, soon! :)

you're not "slacking" Lloyd... you just put yourself into denial for a bit.... I'd have done the same thing. Your mom would understand.

Lloyd, my mom and dad are still sitting here in my little writing room. I've meant to move them to a more calm place, perhaps a sprinkle along the Santa Fe trail, but I have no energy for it. The emotion of grief is heavy, a black hole that sucks all passion, all light, into its center. It has been just a year since dad passed, two years for mom. I still don't have my sparkle. I lost it, can't find it. I know it still exists. But it is hidden. Yours is just hidden now, too. I do know it gets better, day by day. You never stop grieving. But the quality of it changes. Pick up your mom when you're ready. Pay the bills when your hand is ready to move across the page. Nobody should dictate your life but you right now. Or ever, really. Big hugs.

Just reading what you've been through ever since your mom got so ill is kind of preparing me for the time when I'll have to do these same things with my dad. I am so grateful that you are so honest and share things exactly as you feel them.

Ahh Lloyd, we left grandma in the trunk of the car for a good 2 weeks before we remembered to bring her in. Now it's just a sily family joke.
