Get Some Exercise!

December 09, 2007 01:27 PM EST

Especially as it gets colder and sweets and unhealthy foods become more abundant, don't forget to get out and get some exercise. I'm not talking about necessarily doing a marathon or running 10 miles a day. Even making sure you go out for a walk whether around your block or around the mall if your neighborhood is cold is a good way to keep up your activity level. Remember to take the stairs ALWAYS and not escalators or elevators. Always. Drink more water. When in doubt, get away from the computer and tv and go out. I'm advocating being healthy, not losing weight, there's a difference (although sometimes being healthy does involve weight loss). Keeping your heart healthy is important.

Now tell me some of your favorite acitvities.

I work part time at a women's fitness center. I haven't been able to get there too much lately on night's I'm not scheduled to work. Work has been crazy. Hopefully things will slow down and I'll get there more often. I am working tomorrow night so I'll get a good work out in while I'm there.

I just received some pilates videos from eBay. I have back problems and need to strengthen my core.

I use to exercise often by biking and walking and quit for about a year while caring for my mom. I can really tell the difference. My back hurts more now.

I am about to get on a ladder and put up xmas lights! :) I was laughing about your elevator vs stairs comment because the other day I had an experience where I was in a rush and needed to go up a bunch of flights of stairs so I headed to the building's elevator. I noticed it only had one functional elevator and that someone was waiting. Just then the elevator dooors opened up to a elevator full of people HEADING DOWN! Omg I almost peed I couldnt believe how lazy we are! A elevator of people too lazy to walk DOWNSTAIRS? Needless to say, I took the stairs....

No special excersises here. Have always been fortunate to be slim and basically healthy. My job (housekeeper at an assisted living facility) gives me plenty of excersise. Especially since I am the only housekeeper, and clean for over 50 residents each week. Not too mention, my own cleaning. I keep on the go, believe me!

I know I should - this past week I've had severe lower back pain (degenerating disks), and a horrible stiff neck with muscle spasms. My husband always tells me that if I would exercise, I would be able to work through it so much quicker. It has been around 2 years since I last had a good exercise program (elliptical machine, and weights, 3-4x a week). I like to go biking, but will have to wait for the weather to change, and I love swimming (just not in a pool). Maybe a good exercise video would do me some good!

My exercise program includes running from my car to class with 35lbs of books on my back. Taking the stairs. Walking or running up the hallway at work....depends on if the phone is ringing...I have to get back and answer it. Sometimes I even get off my but and walk the dogs.

Dan mine is walking and there are no elevators where we live. Though 30 minutes away is the Regional 'Hosp and all the wings have elevators. Thank God I don't get down there much. The entire complex is like walking a Volksmarch, or 5 or 10K, just to get to the different specialists. Not fun!

The pool is close but I have ever running swimmers ear infections. No swimming for a while.

I love jogging. That is my form of exercising. When I was in college and in my prime, I used to jog 2 miles in the early morning, take a weight training class at noon, and go to marching band practice (which was a couple of hours of marching back and fourth), then go to my tae-kwan-do class, go to dinner, then go jogging for 3 miles before studying and going to bed. The next day it would start all over again. But I don't think I could keep up with that regime today.

There is not a single exercise that I can't find disagreeable if I really try.
I would say the only thing I could tolerate is a tiny walk w/ my camera & finding interesting things to snap along the way.
I keep telling myself I'm going to do that and then I never do.

I love to walk my dogs around the neighborhood, and also take them to the park. I also like to walk around the park by myself and take pictures. There are a few beautiful parks around here, and it's never too cold here either, so I really have no excuse to be sitting in front of this computer so often, when I could be out taking a walk! My boyfriend and I use to ride our bikes togeher every Sunday morning, and we just don't anymore...I really want to do that agian...I will have to start asking him to go again. Good reminder in this article Dan! It's funny how much time goes by in front of my computer screen sometimes!

I walk my dog every morning for about an hour - I find it hard in these dark and wet mornings, but I still make myself do it. Weather permitting, I go for a walk at lunchtime as well, for about a half hour, just to get away from my desk.

I take my dog out a lot. I also like to run though I don't do it as much as I'd like to do. Once I leave my job I'm going to run more since I won't be on my feet nearly all day.

I would love to go for a walk around the block however I have to use a mobility scooter to go much further than my mail box, my fingers do all the exercising for me on the keyboard, does that count?

Morning--dancing around my living room, all by myself is my favorite exercise. Dancing with a partner would be even better but you do what you do, just as long as you move.

Blessings,
Mary Mc

I chase my toddler around and do some exercises I found on a website. I can't wait until it gets warm enough to go for walks again! Since we are down to one car until we get the truck fixed, Elliott and I are stuck in the house all day. It's too cold to go out and play.

Another great way to excercise is to park far away from the doors at the grocery store or the mall.

I've taken up water aerobics--I love it when we d 360 turns in the water--I'm back to being a kid again. Its not as effective as treadmills or walking, but I'm down to one good knee right now so it'll have to do.

I'm a dancer! It's so fun! and the kids like to jump in and try to do it too! It's really cute and what more can you ask for but to not have to worry about the kids trashing the house so you can get your morning exercise in?! hehehe

I have a yoga mat, an exercise ball, a resistance band, and a rebounder. But most of my activity is housework. Swimming is my favorite activity, second is gardening, third is
walking. I think maybe I should make dancing my winter activity. Dancing around doing housework.
