ADVENT CALENDAR December 10th - Lebkuchen to...

Last week I shared my Mama's Lebkuchen recipe with you. It is delicious, but if you want to build a Lebkuchen Haus, here is one that is better for that:

3 c flour

9 oz honey (if you object to honey you can use heavy syrup...)

1/2 c sugar

4 oz chopped almonds

grated peel from one organic lemon

1/2 oz chopped, candied lemon peel

1/2 oz chopped, candied orange peel

1/2 t nutmeg

1/2 t cinnamon

1/4 oz baking soda

Warm honey in a bowl. Add flour, stir well. Add other ingredients, keeping bowl in a warm place. Work to a smooth paste.

Smooth out onto a well-greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350°F (175°C) till done. Cut into desired shapes while still warm.

Now that the Lebkuchen is in the oven, let's go check the Advent Calendar!

Growing up we always had an advent calendar. I remember how I loved opening the numbers each day. Thank you for reminding me, it is a good memory.

I am loving this Advent calendar, Cristina. I've never done this before and it is so neat. I want one of my own. The kids would love this. About all we do is make paper chains and the kids get to cut one off at the end of each day before they go to bed to count down the days until Christmas.
