Don't be caught this weekend without a topic! My notes in italics.
For the first time sex offenders may get life sentences (MPR)
As in life, with no chance for parole. Honestly, if you can't get someone's opinion on this they might not have opinions at all.Gift Card Purchases Due to Surge (NPR)
Ah gift cards. A present from the thoughtless & lazy or from someone who wants you to be able to choose how you splurge on yourself?Airlines plan to pack in more per flight (Marketplace)
Overbooking, here we come! The next step in evolution is allowing passengers to sublet their own laps. When was the last time you had an open seat next to you on a commercial flight? Would you take a later flight for a free flight pass?
Share your own conversation-starters for catching up with the coworkers you rarely get a chance to see, while purchasing thatperfect "experienced" vintage outfit, or to distract you (and your kitchen helper) while doing dishes.

Why sex offenders?
Now do not get me wrong. It makes for good public policy to lock away predatory sex offenders for life. But then does it not make sense to lock away a murderer for life?
We don't do that. Not even close.
Doesn't it make sense to treat murder as harshly as rape? Especially when the homicide is the offenders second or third murder?
It is an options for the courts not a mandate.

"In the Dakota County case, County Attorney James Backstrom is pursuing a life sentence for Robert O. Bollett, a 43-year-old repeat sex offender now charged with molesting two boys. In Ramsey County, prosecutors want life without parole for Gari Lamont Stewart, 26, who faces attempted murder and other charges in the assault of a St. Paul couple in June. Stewart allegedly tried to suffocate and stab the man, raped the woman twice, set the apartment on fire, then forced the woman to withdraw money from a cash machine."
comments - 21 states allow teachers to spank children. 21 countries ban it. What would you do if you saw a person (parent?) spanking a child in a store?
This isn't a good topic at a singles function.
Congrats on getting your article featured!
Well, that's another way to discuss it, Greg. To Dan's point, it would be an option - do you feel there are too many options for murder convictions? Clickable version of link from Dan E.: Prosecutors to seek life sentence for sex offenders
Richard, that is a good discussion topic. Why wouldn't it be a good one at singles' functions? Some singles have kids, and I've found people without kids have just as many opinions about parenting as people who do.
Thank you LaurieAnn.
Do you have any thrift-shop-discoveries, Leslie?
