My trip was uneventful. I have listened to books by Alan Greenspan and Vince Flynn. I spent nights in Indianapolis, Tulsa, Amarillo, and Flagstaff before arriving in the Palm Springs, CA area. I stayed at Country Inns and Suites in the first three locations. In Flagstaff I chose to stay at Little America, one of my favorite small chains.
After a long day of driving, I was looking forward to the large bathtub at Little American in Flagstaff. It is one of their features that I really enjoy. They have a beautiful light display for the holidays. Here is a URL that gives an idea of what it's like [http://www.littleamerical.com/flagstaff/holiday_lights.html]. There are many trees on the property. Some have white lights along the branches. Other trees have their trunks wrapped in different colored lights. It's really a nice display at night.
I took a short detour after leaving Flagstaff. I took highway 89 into Sedona, AZ. I took some photos, but they don't do the beauty of the canyon justice. The red hills surrounding Sedona have been photograhed by many. I was surprised by the large resorts in the area. It's someplace I want to visit again, ideally with my partner.
I'm now staying with a friend who I hadn't seen for more than ten years. She and I are having lots of fun catching up on our lives. It's a good mark of a friendship when the two of you can pick right back up as if we'd just been together last week. She has what I have, so it's good to be with someone who understands.
Saturday morning I'll be on the road again. This time it will be a relatively short trip; I'm driving to San Jose. I hope the storms that are hitting now are over by then and that the Grapevine is open.
