having made this choice before, I go with the run out of toilet paper. there are places you can get toilet paper in an emergency. It is much harder to get any help get the electric turned back on once it is shut off.
I'd rather run out of TP- I can always use a kleenex or paper towel (chafing, ouch!), but I can't live in the dark! I need the glow of my computer monitor to survive and prosper!
Toilet paper any day. I can always find something to wipe with but can't listen to my daughter whine all day about having no electricity. I think she would drive me insane!!
I'd rather run out of toilet paper. I can always find something else to use...facial tissues, paper towels, napkins, even newspaper pages. When the electricity is gone, I can burn candles for light but that doesn't power my television, computer, refrigerator, stove or anything else.
I'd rather run out of electricity. Maybe I am getting old but the idea of doing what needs doing without TP is thoroughly repulsive. And downright uncomfortable. There is no telling what else, if anything, might be in the house to use but none of it does the job like the stuff that was made for it.
As usual, I am on the other side, twisting in the wind, with only Suzy R. to keep me company. Since no one else wants it, I'll take theirs, they can share my electricity and everybody will have what they want.
TP. You didn't say we were out of tissue, paper towels or paper dinner napkins. All can be used as TP if necessary. But as one who spent 3 weeks without electricity after a hurricane, I don't ever want to go through that again.
Toilet paper, there is plenty to use in its place. And if the house were ever devoid of paper products there is the shower....but doing that with cold water from lack of electricity is not fun. Gawd I love bidets, lol
Having been in both situations, I'm going with being without electricity. When the power goes out, the inability to watch television or surf the Internet acts as a period of rest.
My electricity was out for about 2 weeks, years ago, as a result of what's become known as the Northridge Earthquake. It was wonderful actually being able to see the stars at night.
As for the TP, I found it to be rather disgusting having to wipe directly with my hands and wash in the sink. Eww, gross!
TP, "tissues", napkins, paper towels,handi-wipes,the newspaper, and every scrap of paper. As long as I can wash. Druther have electricity, thanks very much ( for the A/C and the tv and the lights at night, and of course the trusty 'puter).

going to go with the electricity one here.
If my electricity shuts down we have no flushing abilities.
I guess I would still have tissue and wipes. lol

There's no substitute for electricity - especially when it's night AND winter and you are freezing by candle light. LOL
