Our Christmas tree is a special little tree. We have the tree in our living room adorned with gold and burgandy bows, and twinkling with multi-colored lights. Our tree isn't gigantic or even an expensive one, but a special tree, because it tells the story of our family.
On one branch hangs a heart shaped glass ornament that reads, "Our First Christmas together--2002." This tells of the first Christmas my husband and I spent together while we were first dating. Before we had children, we used to bundle up in hats, scarves, and mittens and take walks in the snow looking at the Christmas lights. Then we would come home and snuggle and drink hot chocolate and listen to Christmas music.
On yet another branch hangs silver snowman ornaments dressed as bride and groom. These symbolize the October before Christmas that Lenny and I were married. They were given to me by a close girlfriend of mine.
There is also a brass ornament that reads "My very first Christmas." It has a picture of a little bundle cradled in pink, our beautiful baby girl. She was the very best Christmas present I ever recieved. I went into labor on Christmas in the year 2003.
Another branch of the tree holds a clear glass ball ornament. Inside of the ball is a picture of my Grand-daddy Dallas. He was my heart. He has been gone for 15 years now, but still remembered every Christmas when I hang his picture on our tree.
Last year we had a new addition to the ornaments. My husband recieved a unique ornament from Santa Claus. It is a red toolbox ornament holding all the essentials a carpenter would need (hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers) and the lid is opened. On the inside of the lid is a picture of his daughter and his newborn baby son, born in May of 2006.
Now it is 2007 and you never know what ornament we might recieve to add to our collection of memories. I always wondered why I love Christmas. Maybe it's because of all the sparkly lights, maybe because of all the festivities and smiling faces, maybe because it's Jesus birthday, or maybe it's because of the tree that tells the story of how abundently our family has been blessed. To steal the line from the movie, Hope Floats, "My cup runneth over."

Going ten extra yards
Hoping you'll earn lots of points
To trade in for gift cards.
When I give you "10"
And add this little rhyme
It doesn't mean I didn't read -
It means I'm short on time.
Oh, Gather's great - Gather's fun!
How I love to share
Won't you please go read my stuff
So I will know you care
Oh, Gather's great - Gather's fun!
I could play here all day long
But then I wouldn't be with my kids
And my husband would be gone.
I hope that you'll do the same for me - and then we can all be happy!
A 10 for you! Happy Holidays to you, too!
