The village of Tobermory, on the Island of Mull, is one of the most quaint, peaceful, picturesque places on earth. We visited the island in June of 2007 for three days.
We reached the island via the ferry from Oban and stayed at a delightful bed and breakfast called Cuidehe Leathain. While there, we visited Duart,
Torosay,
and Glengorm Castles, Finegal's Cave on the Isle of Staffa,
and the white sand beach of Calgary Bay,
and had a wonderful time poking around Tobermory and the surrounding lanes and byways.
I wrote home and told my friends that the good news was that there was an extensive system of bicycle trails and golf-cart paths on the Island of Mull, the bad news was that you had to drive on them because there were no roads. The narrow, one-lane "roads" are very nice but can be hair-raising as you dodge sheep and speeding lorries while keeping your eyes open for the next passing place.
My husband played golf with one of the most lovely views ever, and we both enjoyed the Chocolate Factory,
shops, art galleries, castles, Celtic cemetaries,
gardens, wild-flowers and hiking trails. We had delicious meals, from the B&B's tasty breakfast, to caramel shortbread and sausage rolls from the bakery, Cumberland sausages and mash at a pub, and an exquisite smoked haddock pie with mashed potatoes on top at a seaside restaurant.

Mull offers mountains, hills, ocean views, beaches, quaint villages, castles and wonderful delights of every kind all within a few miles.
Although the one-lane roads on Mull take a bit of getting used to, they force you to slow down, smell the roses and enjoy the scenery. The Island of Mull is hands down one of my favorite place on earth. We were so taken with the place that we have even discussed moving there one day.

Keep on going on ;-o
Sounds wonderful. My wife and I once spent a few days in Oban while touring the U.K. and really enjoyed it. We'd love to visit this island, which sounds even better.
Reminds me of an island I've been to.

The Isle of Mull cheddar is my favourite type of cheddar cheese and I always make sure we stock up when we visit as it is sooooo expensive on the mainland.
Unfortunately, unless you have dual nationality, or are the citizen of another EU country, the chances of being able to obtain a working visa are slim to nil!
I've been to the other Tobermory--in Ontario, Canada.
