No - It still means Christ, in Greek.
When you read it, you don't say the "X" in Xmas - You still read the words "Merry Xmas" aloud as "Merry Christmas".
It became popular when it was used to condense space on shop windows. That's what made it so very tacky. It allowed the letters to get bigger. It looks greedy that way (and few dare do it today).
And it looks lazy when you write that in a card. You're not writing it all in Greek, so stop it.

LOL - you know I love you, Vivian P.
It may make Christ tacky - but he's still there as an X !!!
(wait a minute - that story didn't end too good - there was a snake)
Ahhh.
Anyway, I read yours Peter and I don't write in Greek so I will not use the Xmas. LOL
Oh, and we can write it anyway we like, Peter! :-p I like writing it out, too, though... so there! :-p
Merry Christmas everyone!!
LOL
Peter,
I hate seeing Christmas spelled that way. I would never do it.
For the religiously inclined, explaining the X in Christmas seems to be a ministering opportunity to spread the Christian message.
