I have come to tell you something

Something you should know

You are someone very special

And it’s a pleasure to watch you grow

Your whole life lies before you

You get to decide where you want to go

The footprints that you leave behind

Will be your and yours alone

It’s up to you just how they’ll look

Will they be footprints crisp & clear?

Or steps destined to just drag along

Ones to fade and then disappear

As you chart your course through life

Note all the steps that you will take

Be not afraid to alter course

Be not afraid to make mistakes

For there is no shame in choosing wrong

Some of the very best have gone astray

Hold fast your faith, pursue your dream

And push ever forward upon your way

                               At times, step carefully and slowly

But remain prepared to try

To sometimes run and leap the void

And spread your wings and fly
