I have this sense of humor
that goes in and out with me
It is like my shadow
I can't step on it you see
I can't hide from it or runaway
Or put it in a drawer
for it starts from deep inside me
begins down in my core
Sometimes I want to appear dignified
and try to hide my smile
but it becomes so frustrating
it isn't worth my while
so when this little giggle
somehow begins laughings start
I have no control over it
For the humor is in my heart
I don't know what to do with it
When listening to a sad song
for me to be smiling on
And I know my timing's wrong
So please do forgive me
If I can't stifle my guffaw
I find the funny side of life
Is that against the law
Okay, perhaps I need to curb it
Sometimes it's not deemed right
when my heart sees something funny
I can't hide it, that's my plight
I am working on being serious
wearing a mask over my smiling eyes
if you hear that smothered giggle
You've got me, I'm no good at this disguise

I have written several comedic plays that all deal with controversial and serious issues (death, the end of the world, abortion, etc.) through the vehicle of comedy. I believe that there is a comic side to everything. Human beings have the ability to perceive the absurdity of life. Much of life's tragedy makes us cry, but if we look at it a little askew it can also make us laugh.
The only two things I have not seen the humour in are genocide and child abuse. I suspect, however, that survivors of those horrors may at times see the humorous side of their experiences.
Roberto Benigni, the wonderful Italian comedic actor, made a wonderful movie called La Vita et Bella (Life is Beautiful) all about a father using humour and games to shield his young son from the horrors of war and genocide. It is amazing.
Loved the poem, Elsie.

Reena - Isn't that a picture of Elsie and her husband? It's beautiful!
and I would see right through your disquise,,, because you cant hid your gift and grace of writting. so there.. don't even tru
This is a beautiful writing...
No, it has no real reason or me picking my nose
Now I could tell you I've been squeezin Charmin
Ot that I'm passing lots of gas
This may be true, but those are really minor facts
The reason is I've been sleeping a lot this recent week
And after I quit snoring, it seems I often sneeze
I'm trying to ketchup, and you know that tune
And sometimes I am in hiding from your zoom zoom zoom
For the most part, this poem has a nice flow and excellent rhyme. A few lines are a bit too wordy breaking the rhythm.
Don't try to hide it, let your laughter come out and infect others with it.
(Payton is 12 btw, and thanks again for all of yoyur support and concern)
I do try so hard and succeed in hiding my pain with the smiles and laughter, so see smiles do a lot of good!
And as always, you know too.
She was preparing a trip to the moon for the next night
But she wanted some llama pellets, so she thought of Marge
But then fell off her rocker and tipped over her jar
She fell on a bouncy cushion which bounced her into a wall
That luckily was padded with one million cotton balls
She said hello Peter Rabbit I see you've a cotton tail today
Then she remembered the llama pellets and called Marge right away
Now Marge told Elsie that Flickertail was bald
But Elsie told Marge I want pellets and don't need no wool
Then said, let's go turkey hunting and Marge said that sounds nice
But I could hear Elsie laughing which made it easy to hide out of sight
Well they didn't bag a turkey and had to settle for some beans
And then both started tooting, it was really quite a scene
Then they gathered llama pellets and told jokes all night long
Then Lynn came in with some red wool and Marge was quite alarmed
Thank you for being such a wonderful friend and
for all your lovely comments Elsie. Love you.

Only two more to go then this story is done.
Happy Saturday!
No Marco tonight? And here i thought I'd pop in to see you work your guessing magic with all the regulars!
We may be old, but we cant frown all the time. Have to crack a smile and enoy life.
I too see humor in everything.
I think it's one of my best qualities.
You have that very naughty spicy smile on every photo that I've seen.
I'm sure that you're the only person in the world that has a pleasant looking passport photo. Not so????
I loved that poem and you had me smiling on the way.
Does Dandelion wine do that? If that's true shouldn't the United Nations spread it around a bit? Just thinking.
:)
Thanks.
