Still not a very viable option for areas that don't get enough sunlight, but technology is improving.

It would be nice but going Solar when you live
in a Senior Housing Complex just doesn't happen.
My electric is included in the rent but I always turn
the lights off when I leave a room. Different things
I have been doing to save on water, don't buy the
prepackaged foods.

We are in Florida.
We can't do solar on this Townhome, assoc. rules.

But My husband and I hope to get a home....If we get a house we will solar panel it, get a tankless water heater, get rain barrels for rainwater to water the plants (right now we have a bucket)-, get underground sprinklers, we want to go as green as possible.

My husband's favorite show is "Living with Ed" ( Ed Begley)!

I would love to have solar energy , but live in an apartment complex but have to pay my own electricity,but I will say, I turn everything off I am not using to keep my bills down, so conserving in that way.

Sounds pretty cool -- I'd also like to see that 'Living with Ed' show, if I knew when it was on. I think Art Bell has a solar generator in Pahrump Nevada. My late Grandpa Norman once created a sun activated fan on his porch, to blow warm air into the house (which is across the street from us). But when he died, the next homeowner just took it out of the window! I want to build an underground home some day, but would probably use solar for complementary heating. Those Whole Earth catalogs are great, too. Thanks for the informative article!

For those of us that cannot either afford the cost of solar or do not have the resources in the area to get it, you still can be eco-friendly with regards to the Illuminating Company. Use as little electricity as possible even during the winter months (cept run your heat if electric-controlled). Shut off lamps, overhead lights, trak lights, computer monitors, tvs, radios, and coffee pots when not in use. Instead of turning on that lamp, light a few candles instead.

Cheaper and smell a whole lot nicer !
