Just a note for those who live in the greater Denver area ... you can get rid of used or outdated electronics for free Saturday, December 1st.

Waste Management and Sony are providing this as a one-day, free service for individuals. (Information I read suggested businesses will have a small fee. )

The disposal includes any brand of used or outdated electronic material: computers or monitors, televisions, VCR's, DVD's, and the like. This event does NOT include most kitchen appliances.

Details:

I wish they had something like that here. We just bought a new printer and I am trying to figure out what to do with the old one.

Office Max, Office Depot, and Staples all have active recycling programs (though there are some restrictions on models -- I think they probably act as collection points for manufacturer programs). Some of these have $5 or $10 charges. Some other stores in your area might, as well.

A number of cities in this area have one-day events once or twice a year. earth911.org sometimes lists these (assuming you have room to store the old printer that long).

There are some places that recycle them all the time. In fact, I know there's one locally that gives you a nominal dollar or two per piece for printers, computers, etc.

Actually, I agree with Paul W., the session I was talking about would probably recycle the metals, etc rather than rehabing the machines.

This is extremely important. We have it year round at the moment, for free, but our town is facing money troubles, so who knows...

Keeping electronics out of landfill and recycling them properly are both essential for our health.

Hi everyone, my wife and I run a small electronics recycling program in Denver that is open to residents and businesses and is also free. We do it the right way and obviously are not out to get rich like most businesses. We do it free of charge and feel why should anyone have to pay to recycle and have been going broke sticking to our ideas. We have non profit plans in the near future and are just looking to grab a few good contracts to help stay afloat but we do everything for the good of the envirnment and it is free! 720-374-4770

I saw this. If Garrick can get tax exempt status from the IRS he should have quite a good sound business that just might still be around in 2012.

I love reading about all of the things that are being done to help Mother Earth! I don't think a lot of the people realize how much they can help by just doing a little. It is amazing how many people do not recycle. I have worked in the Denver Hotels for many years and have always been getting on my fellow employees about this. Many Denver Hotels have incentives for the employees to recycle. This makes everyone a winner!
