I reached my goal of 50,000 words to become a 2007 NaNoWriMo Winner! It was at about 8:30 on Tuesday evening.
About ten of us gathered at a coffee shop in San Rafael to write and to meet Chris Baty, the founder and originator of NaNoWriMo. It was a pleasure to meet him (and partake of the 10# box of Jelly Belly sours assortment that he brought with him). The group was lively but determined to work on our novels. A few people that had not previously made it to write-ins this year showed up and I had the pleasure of meeting them, too.
Around 8:30 I reached 50,055 words and I kept on working. I did tell the group when everyone stopped for a break around 8:45. There were congratulations from everyone as I breathed a sigh of relief to go with my ear to ear smile.
I’m not finished with my novel. I’m currently at 51,077 words and I imagine there are about another 15 to 20 thousand words before my novel is actually finished in first draft form but I have reached the goal of 50 thousand and for NaNoWriMo, that’s all that matters.
I have set a personal goal of finishing the first draft within the next two weeks. Then it is on to editing and re-writing.
I love NaNoWriMo! I think it is an excellent way to get your creativity flowing. Then it gives you a project to work on during the year.
I am already thinking of what my plot might be for next year!

Good luck getting your first draft done. Mine needs probably 100,000 more words and December will not be a good month to write in. I do think I will take a notebook along in my luggage for when I'm stuck in the Chicago Amtrack terminal for six hours.. heh.
I can't imagine doing this, I really don't have a book in me (unless it was a reference book or a cookbook) as fiction just isn't something I can do!
No, I wouldn't. I lied. I don't like pressure when I'm writing.
