Bruised Reed

I am a bruised reed
Broken and sore
If you tallied today
I’d have no score
I am trampled and stoned
Broken-hearted and blind
If you looked today
Only trouble would you find
I once stood so tall
Strong against the wind
Back through my yesterday
When I had not known sin
I was strong and so fast
Taking on all pride
Yes, back in my yesterday
Caught in full stride
And now it is time
To relinquish my soul
To enter tomorrow
Beneath my Savior’s robe
I stretch out my hand
Lift my eyes to the sky
And enter tomorrow
Without asking why
My strength will return
In one form or another
For all of eternity
My Lord is my brother
Doing His will
I will avoid the reaper
For all of eternity
He remains his brother’s keeper.

That verse is regularly a prayer of mine, because I want to be as gentle as our Lord is, and to be like Him in that way.
