Late Thanksgiving Poem

I wrote this on Thanksgiving but I've been going through a rough patch so this is the first time I've had a clear enough head to type it... here goes.

Thanksgiving

A day of thanks

half spent

in bed, watching

a parade

and a dog show.

The other half

is spent

at work, watching

people slowly

shop and enjoy

each other's

company.

Forget why this day

is special

and give in

to commercialism.

Ouch! Thanks for the explanation of being in a rough patch. Sometimes it seems to me I am surrounded by the "crud" of life. I try not to give in to it. I try to look for positives. But the trying can be difficult as you know.

Mm. A slice of the real, which is always welcome. It's hard to imagine that retailers are trying to open up Thanksgiving /day/ as a Christmas shopping opportunity, but I understand that that's the new push. I just shake my head.
