We wanted to do something totally creative this year when we decorated the Christmas tree. Thinking back I remembered the delicious smelling moraments my SIL created and had given to all of us as gifts one year. Cinnamon ornaments. Internet research revealed a recipe for these marvelous, long lasting creations, however, we ended up adjusting, adding and improving the recipe, as the consistency of the orginal just wasn't right. With proper storage the smell will last up to five years.
Here tis:
2 cups cinnamon
2 tbsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp. allspice
2 tbsp ginger
4 tbsp tacky glue
2 1/2 to 3 c. applesauce
In medium bowl, combine cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger & nutmeg. Add applesauce, stir to combine. Work mixture with hands 2 to 3 minutes or until dough is smooth and ingredients are thoroughly mixed to cookie dough consistency. Hint: For extra "sparkle," mix in decorative glitter, we didn't have any so consequently no sparkle.

Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut dough with cookie cutters.

Using toothpick, straw or pencil, make small hole in top of ornament. Trim edges if needed.

Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 200 degrees for 2 1/2 hours

Hang on tree next to the German pickle ornament!

Enjoy!
