Works for "sweet and dinner type pies - anything you need a pastry crust for!" It's not as hard as you THINK... Try it!
In a bowl, mix 1 cup all purpose flour with 1/2 tsp salt. Cut in 6 tsps shortening.
Gradually add 2-3 Tbsp cold water, mixing until four is moistened.
Shape dough in to ball; flatten to 1 inch thick. On lightly floured or nonstick board, roll dough into circle about 2" larger than an inverted 9" pie pan with pastry. Turn edge under; flute if desired.

If your mixture looks as smooth as the flour itself, you will invariably end up with a pie crust that should have gone straight to the trash. The lumpier your mixture before you add the ice water, the flakier your crust will be.
and try it.
Thanks.
